You can have it with absorbable beads as well. Speak with dr bagla about that. What type of beads did you have it with?

If the beads are absorbable does this mean that they will only work for a limited time until they are absorbed?

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience with PAE, Joe. Where dod yoiu have the procedure performed, and what went wrong?

Hey Don within an hour or waking from the procedure. I broke out with a bad rash from my neck down. They immediatly called in a dermatologist specialist, and he gave me several drugs, that slowed it down,. But by 7pm that night areas of my skin were coming off in pieces. They sent me on home.

Over the next 6 months my prostate swelled up and was extremly painful, and the lesions on my skin would not heal. I took huge doses of prednisone off and on, and finally took it for 2 months straight one time. Its been a year and 2 months now, and I still have scars from the lesions about the size of a quarter all over my torso, Prostate is very sensitive, and my ejaculations (when I try it) are very painful.

The Docs including the PAE doc, and my local dermatologist said at the time it was a fixed drug eruption and considering how long it has lasted the reaction could only be to the beads. Any other medication that was used would have long since cleared my system.

I had mine done at UNC.

I winder if they can test you to see if you're allergic to the beads

My local dermatologist says that he had researched doing that and could not really find a viable option.

It would sure be good to know 100 for sure

There have been several other instances of reactions to these embolizing agents.

They absorb over time but the effect of destroying the bph is right away

Wow, Joe, you really had a bad reaction. I hope things get better. Are you on any BPH meds?

I am fairly new to pae: do they use a scan to target the part of the prostate that is causing the problem and only embolise that part? The information that I have seen suggested that the whole of the prostate is embolised (which worried me since it does more than just block the flow through the urethra) - but perhaps it was an oversimplification. The reason for my previous question was that, since the prostate tends to enlarge over time, could the condition not return some time after absorbtion?

Please do a search for "Prostatic arterial embolization for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms due to large (>80 mL) benign prostatic hyperplasia: results of midterm follow-up from Chinese population". There you´ll find how the technique is performed. It´s a very understandable text.
