Progress following THR

Hi, for your THR if your surgeon has used the following hip stem
Furlong Evolution
then how has your recovery been? How long after the op were you able to walk unaided? Pain free? Resumed normal life (work etc)? I am having my LTHR towards the end of this month and the above will be used instead of the longer standard stem. Just wanted to know what to expect. Thanks and best wishes, Harry

That's weird, when I saw my X-ray of my left hip replacement I thought the stem was short!! I haven't seen one like it before, I didn't know why it was so short. Do you know why they use the shorter stems? I'd attach a photo but I'm not sure how to do it.

Working with Images in the Discussion Board
Adding images into the discussion board (or any place you have a text editor) can be done three different ways. You can use the Rich Content Editor to embed images from the web, or images previously uploaded into Canvas, or images found on Flickr.
Click Picture icon from the Rich Text Editor.
[Rich text editor]
1. Locate the image you want to embed. When you have located the image, click the Update button.
2. You can embed images from your Personal files in Canvas into the Rich Content Editor. You can only embed images that have been previously uploaded to your personal. That means if you need to embed images to the Discussion, you must upload the image files in the Personal Files before you posting to a Discussion.

I can't see anything that looks like a rising sun over a mountain, do you think it's because I use my phone & not a tablet?

All incisions enable the surgeon to see the hip joint from different angles and maneuver smaller instruments within the spaces. Tiny fiber-optic lights guide the surgical instruments which are supplied in a kit by the manufacturer, in order to place the ball and socket joint prosthetics very precisely between muscles. They are never cut. When you go in for your post op you might want to ask for the name of the manufacturer of your hip prothesis to look up the components online.
Most surgeries today avoid cutting any muscle in THR even if it is in the stomach or any area where the muscles are involved. Micro surgery has made so many recovery periods much shorter . Clear and precise videos are available on THR surgeries on you tube to help understand the proceedure during surgery.
Hope this is of some for you.
Heeling thoughts seen you way!

That's very interesting, thank you for that. I always thought muscles were cut with the posterior approach. I'll be asking my surgeon about the implant when I see him a week on Friday.
I might watch the videos after I've had my second one done 😊
Thank you for the information Hope

The videos are not difficult to watch if one is a bit queasy then find a diagram video online as well as the manufacturers have videos designed for easy viewing.
I learned how the surgery was done the first time, now 3 THR later each one is different and techniques & component designs always change. Mabe I'll have micro THR the next time. Faster recovery probabley efficient and costly.
