Hi Tina, I was the same for 5 years until I decided too go ahead with surgery which I had almost 5 weeks ago.  The recovery has been difficult for me and I'm not sure about the results yet as I'm still recovering....so when I feel better I'll get back.  From others I have heard from ,it is worth it once the recovery stage is past, which takes a lot longer than what doctors suggest so if you decide to do it, make sure you ask tons of questions about what you will be like after so you know what you are facing.  The more knowledge, the better!  Best luck!  Please let us know what is happening as we sisters are all in this together!

Thanks Barb just was debating if it was safe and would work. Heard such bad stories with the mesh. I really need to figure it out tired of being this way bloated all the time and peeing all the time. Need something done. Thanks again.

Tina, I would be very careful about using mesh!  My gyne will not use it ever and there are thousands of law suits against it because of its potential damage.  I am in Vancouver Canada and as far as I know it is not used here at all.  She did not use it in my surgery which was anterior and posterior repair!  Just be clear that the recovery is more difficult than the docs tell us and going back to any kind of work will take longer, than you think.  It is major surgery that requires a lot of time to heal well.  I hope this helps and you get some quality of life back again.

Hi tina.....i am 54 and had surgery 15 weeks ago.....not mesh...tape!! Recovery takes time

....12 weeks...at 5 weeks i felt like i was getting somewhere but still very tired and bowels very sluggish. ...... and wondered if it had worked.....at 6 weeks...a little better....at 11 weeks got old energy back and at 12 weeks felt human again and everything working well....at 15 weeks i am super human and feeling better than i have felt in years!!...time and rest are the key factors to success...make sure your doctor specializes in prolapse repair and above all make sure you feel comfotable with your doc

Hang in there......sitting was still uncomfortable at 5 weeks.....such early days....just dont overdo anything...healing takes 3 months minimum!! X

Thank you for your honesty!  Yes sitting is soooo difficult and painful, I was beginning to wonder if something was wrong in there but reading all these posts has helped so much to find that this is all normal.  I wish my docs had told me this and from now on I will be telling every female who will listen!

Yep...every story different...and not enough info about recovery time and what expect! At 5 weeks lots twinges and discomfort and a bit depressing for me....all normal. ...9 weeks heaps better but still be v careful...... just keep 12 weeks as goal......and you will still see improvement after that.....😀 x

      Hi Milly,

It has been uplifting to read your advice. I'm just over 4 weeks post op and are having all those twinges. It's brilliant to hear from someone who has been through it that this is normal. I was told 6 months to fully heal but was originally told 6-8 weeks off work, then the day after surgery was told 12 weeks. Obviously now this does sound more realistic. I really didn't know what to expect and was starting to feel anxious about still feeling the way i do but you have made me feel so much better. I just wish the hospitals were more honest about the recovery, they tell you very little. I have learned so much more from this site. Thank you again for your honesty and support

      Thanks Milly

it's great to have someone much further down the line who can

put some of the healing timescales into context. Many wouldn't take the time to come back and report their progress and this makes me more mindful to do just that later on.

Our lifestyles make a difference to our healing. Our abiIlty to be patient makes a difference, plus our attitude and kindness rather than judgement and disappointment if we don't reach a stage at a certain time.

We are complex and unique beings that need hope and patience

in ourselves and others around us. Time spent resting from the

outset pays dividends in our healing. This site gave me such good advice from day one and thank goodness for that or I woukd be having a *very* different experience now At 4 weeks.

I'd like to add that this has been a huge re-education for me, on

so many levels; physical, emotional, mental and societal. Not

making excuses for myself but rather explaining and informing my family and friends so that my body knows I'm taking good care of it rather than being impatient with it. This has improved my confidence no end and one I can only wish to share with all of you lovely women.

Have patience and listen to it. I speak to my body like I would a sick child and it feels like it appreciates that, almost sighs with relief. No I'm not crazy, I'm a professional therapist who helps people improve their lives so it's 'practice what you preach'.

Ladies let's keep kindness and encouragement at the front of our minds yeah? And when that's not easy, come on here and we'll

      all help xx

Big love and enjoy your Sunday girls xx

Thanks Milly, it's so good to have contact with someone who is further on. Light at the end of the tunnel. I will try very hard to be patient as it obviously pays off in the long run.

      Thanks again

Patsy, you are amazing!  I love your words of comfort and encouragement, thank you.  If you are 4 weeks post op, what was the date you had it done?  It would be fun (well, strange word to use) but I guess really great if our dates were the same and we could really compare progress!  Mine was Feb 4....I believe Rhona is around that date as well?  I think the fact that I had two surgeries within 10 hours has delayed my healing a bit, at least that's what I'm putting it to!  I had an anterior and posterior vaginal repair and then 10 hours later went back in to stop the bleeding as I lost a lot of blood, which apparently is quite unusual.  Oh, forgot to mention that along with TLC, rest and a few drugs (only light ones for the pain), I have also used an ice pack and does that ever help!  Instant relief!  Anyway, thank you all for your sharing, this place has been my comfort since I found you all!😘

      Hi Barb,

Yes mine was 5th February. You are right this site is just amazing. I keep telling my family all about it. This mornings post from Milly was so uplifting, she is 15 weeks post op and sounded so positive. How are you feeling today? I had a short trip out but I'm finding I really have to rest afterwards as dragging pain and aching in bottom of stomach, also still got stingy, twingy feelings underneath. I suppose we will just have to be patient and give it time. At least when you hear of someone much further along saying they are doing great it spurs you on.

      Take care

So right, Rhona!  We really need to keep in touch about our recoveries, what a gift it is to connect with someone who knows what this is all about!  Please tell me again what your surgery was as it sounds a little different from mine.  A lot of women talk about the achy abdomen, which I have never experienced but the stinging and aching...oh YES!  It is Sunday morning here, international women's day, and the first day I feel my spark coming back! Yahoo!  If you would like to email me so we can keep in closer touch, please do so!

Good today, had a small walk and lunch with friends and sat in a beach hut yesterday afternoon but I feel hugely tired after and slump on the couch for the rest of the day and watch netflix, god bless it!

One thing I have done is taken sugar out of my diet. It's been very helpful as I now don't feel as overwhelmed or emotional, nor do I get those flushes quite so much. It also helped get my bowels back in good shape after the antibiotics removed all the goodness so ut feels like a good clean slate!

The Dr I saw was only once she is a urogynecologist. And yes specializes in prolapse organs. Never heard of this tape thing though not to sound dumb but doesn't sound like it would hold. But definitely better than mesh. And I watch my grandkids at times so I guess I would have to take at least 3 months off of doing that if I decide to do this.

Hi Milly, I live in Texas and have been doing extensive research on alternatives to transvaginal mesh for my rectocle repair. My urogynocologist only uses mesh so I am searching for doctors using biological materials. Can you tell me about the tape that your doctor used for your repair? What are some of the other options in Canada, since they don't use mesh there?  Any info that you can give me will be appreciated. I have an appointment with my OBGYN in a few days to hear what she will recommend. Thanks!
