Prolapse Return

I had an Anterior and Posterior repair on 4th August i was doing well apart from these spasms/ contractions inside the Vagina. I had my post op. 10 weeks after surgery and the Surgeon said he was pleased. However yesterday I noticed the dreaded pink ball at the opening and I can feel a small swelling. It's not half as bad as last time I had awful symptons itchy and bulging. I have the Gyno tomorrow. I can't quite believe this is happening to me again! ... Anyway just wondered if any of you have had the same and gone for the operation a second time with success? TIA

Hi Liz! I'm having my second op tomorrow. Had an a&p repair in May of this year which failed 2.5 weeks after surgery (confirmed by consultant). I've been told that there is no guarantee of it working and in fact the success rate has gone down to 70%. I'm really anxious but I've got to give it a go as I can't go on like this! He did say that this one is a lot smaller than the original one which he described as being massive x

Gosh Caroline. Thanks for your reply. Wishing you loads of luck for tomorrow. Is the operation as big the second time as it's a smaller prolpase, will the recovery be a bit quicker?

Thanks. It will be the same recovery time and op I assume. The back one has held it's just anterior one tomorrow. At least this time I'll know what to expect and thanks to this website as consultants don't tell you anything or at least mine didn't x

Hi Liz,
Please let us know what you find out. I had mine on 16th. Everything seams to be fine. But this week, I've been getting that heavy feeling and small ache like you were kicked there, but not real hard. Been walking 2 miles and doing a lot more...... Worry about the same thing. Do hope you just have a small infection or something that would cause that. Will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Liz
Sorry to hear the dreaded bulge has retured. I can completely appreciate how you must be feeling. Unfortunately, I can't add any positive response as I've had 3 unsuccessful, 1 undo and an investigative op. All in the space of 2 and a half years. I still get, as you describe, spasms. I also get pain in my upper legs and abdomen/belly button. As it stands, no further surgery has been planned for me as I appear to be a bit of a mystery to the consultants. The only other option they have given me for the time being is a ring pessary. I'm still in the pondering stages of that. Not something I thought I'd have to consider at the age of 28!
What hospital did you have your operation in?
I hope you manage to get some support and and a plan at your appointment tomorrow.
Best wishes
Fiona

dont panic but best to get checked out.
i had a posterior repair done successfully on April28 this year. Unfortunately I needed an anterior repair on Nov 1st, surgeon said its just unlucky, a weakness that came through after last op. All felt OK until around 8 weeks post posterior repair but GP and junior doctor thought it was all ok. I went back a few times, each time I felt it was getting worse then it was diagnosed as anterior prolapse, very fed up as usually very active and work full time. I must say its not been as uncomfortable, much easier sitting. Had it with a local anaesthetic again,. Good luckĀ

Hi
Just wanted to update you all on yesterdays post. I have been to see the Gynae. this morning nand it is not my bladder prolapsing again it is in fact the tip of my Uterus coming down! I had the prolapse for 6 years before I had surgery so my Uterus is not used to supporting itself or the surrounding area. He has advised me to carry on with the Physio. appointments and pelvic floor exercises to see if that area strenghtens and I have to go back and see him in Feb. I may need another procedure where he "chops off" the part of the Uterus falling or may even mean a Hyesterctomy after all. Anyway I am releived it's not the bladder and I intend to be religious with my pelvic floor excercises even though I find them a pain in the ass to do!
Hopefully some of you will find this useful just in case you have the same issue.
I will keep the Forum updated to what happens in Feb.
Best wishes to you all X

Glad to hear your prolapse hasn't returned. I had a rectocele repair a year ago. Early on I felt a lump and it turned out it was my cervix, which was low. I'm 41 and I had no idea that the cervix moved down low before and during periods. I panicked thinking that my op had failed, but was reassured that everything was fine. i see a physiotherapist every month at my local hospital. I had to be referred by my doctor. She has examined me a few times and has helped me with pelvic floor exercises and how to do them properly. I also have had a few sessions of Pilates specifically for strengthening the pelvic floor. It has definitely helped. I have been very careful since my op not to overdo things too quickly and that has definitely helped me. But I would definitely recommend seeing a physiotherapist, mine has been brilliant especially for reassurance. Good luck x
