Propranalol

Hi am on Citalopram and have been for many years.  Due to a health problem a few months ago my anxiety worsened and my gp has given me propranalol to take - 10mg twice a day - to stop the physical effects of anxiety.  I must say they are working but I am doing the most stupid thing - trying to make myself feel anxious to see if they are working!  Why am I doing this???

It's probably your brain telling you to do this, they must be working if your trying to make yourself anxious to see if there working, I'm on them too but a lot higher dosage and they work fine

What kind of physical effects did you have? I ask because I am on Sertraline and I do suffer with some crazy, weird symptoms like achy armpits and chest pains etc, and more recently, it feels like my throat is closing! I wonder if it might be worth mentioning Propranol to my doctor?

I was getting the adrenaline rush - dizzy which made me feel anxious and started the whole thing off again.  Went to see my gp and said I really didn't want to change the anti-depressants and he suggested Propranalol as it stops the physical feelings you get with anxiety.  Am taking 10mg twice a day (which is a low dose).  They definitely work - it feels like there is a barrier there which stops the physical symptoms - it is worth speaking to your gp about it I think!
