Pros and Cons of when to do the other knee

I've known all along that both knees were shot and needed replacement, but my doctor refused to them at the same time. Now I'm wondering when to do the other. First was May 17, and I'm still in discomfort and not sleeping well. My doctor says when I'm ready to schedule the other knee. What have you experienced? How long did you wait between? If you could do it over would you make different choices and why? Thanks in advance to all. This forum has gotten me this far.

Hi Kathy!
Both of my knees needed to be replaced. I picked the one hurting most to go first. Had the second one done 3 1/2 months later. Couldn't wait to get the second one done because it was REALLY HURTING while my surgical knee was feeling good. My second knee surgery went well. I was surprised about that because it had been my worst knee for longer than my knee that started being a booger prior to my first surgery!
Both knees good now. VERY, VERY glad I got both over and done with so I could get back to LIFE!

You need to let your TKRd knee set the pace. I had a very long slow recovery with my first TKR and waited 18 months. Great recovery this time. I would wait until you feel that your TKRd knee has improved a lot more. Don't be in such a rush to have the new one, relax into it.
