    HI David,

    thank you for the info...

I'm just curious, were you suffering from Nocturia as well due to your symptons?

I have been on Tamsulosin for a while now, with limited success (it helps a bit)...

The urologist has told me that the next option is a TURP but I am unkeen on having this done due to possible loss in sexual function and the fact that he advised that it probably wouldn't relieve the nocturia symptoms much, which at the moment is my main issue! Can you advise how much this procedure cost you and how you went about getting it done?

    Thanks,

    Clive

Yes I was getting up at night 3-5 times it varied from time to time. I sleep now 7-8 hours before I have to pee. smile

My uroligist told me same thing told me I needed a TURP @ Baylor and so I got another opinion from U.T.Southwest urologist and he did a test to see how enlarged my postrate was and it was a 162 cc  a normal size is about 30cc or less ,and I didn't have cancer and his professional opinion was to do a radical robotic prostectomy said that i wouldnt benifit from any medication this was my only choice. I was taking tamsulosin at this time ,I  do not value the urologist opinion any more i have done alot of research on the procedures and the results you are trying to avoid are the same side effects of both procedures mentioned above and some of the medication that is supposed to relive the symptoms also can cause effectile disfunction . you ask what was the cost it was 4900 Euros and i emailed the doctor to see if  I would be a candidate for the PAE he has a very high success rate about 90%  and he emailed me back right away he is in Portugual the hospital is St Louise hospital very clean very professional i didnt wait over 15 min for any of my appoitments with him and my procedure also was on time. it was very refreshing to have that experince as well i had a test done in portugal and it also was state of the art and cost 150 euros comapared to 1500 doallrs in the USA I am very happy I found him and you can google his name Dr Martin Pisco Lisbon Portugual he speaks english as did most all of Portugal.I am almost a month since I had the procedure done and I fell like a new person. I felt the difference the very next day and it has only gotten better. before I had the procedure I was having problems with my sex drive and keeping my erection I no longer have that problem either. my wife is happy and so am I. ALL of the procedures offered by the urolgist are surgeries  that have many awful side effects. !!!!!!!!!!!!! the PAE is outpatient I had a shot to numb the area i was fully awake the only mark on my whole body from this was a bruise about the size of a silver dollar. I had only good results and I cant explain how happy I am every day that I did this. Dr. Pisco and his team are THE experts in this procedure . the catheter that is being used for the PAE is called a Pisco cathter his design. even doctors are coming to him to have the procedure . It works and I urge you to go for it. you will not regret it.

      thanks for your reply...

I live in the UK, so I saw my Urologist thru the NHS... basically, he has said my only option now is a TURP... I think this is the only procedure offered on the NHS... this was back in about October last year... I am only 47 but have been suffering symptons for about 7 years... I am waking up at least once an hour to pee, and sometimes it is as bad as every 20 minutes... the urologist has told me tho, that a TURP is unlikely to improve the nocturia symptoms that dramatically and quite honestly, this is my biggest problem. even thos I have discomfort and urgency throught the day, I can live with this... I am not keen on having a TURP as I am worried about the permanent damage it can cause to sexual function (permanent retrograde ejaculation and possible impotence)...this sounds like it could be a very viable option to me and sounds quite non invasive.. also, being in the UK, Portugal is quite easy to get to... I will definitely get in touch with DR Pisco... thank you again for this information

I had PAE on NHS in Bournemouth about four weeks ago.  It is already showing a lot of improvement.  So it is widely available in the UK.

Yes it is in the UK.... I just chose Dr. Pisco because he is the Teacher and inventor of the catheter and I believe anyone who does this procedure it will work as long as they follow the way they where taught.

Hi, I am based in the UK and my urolgist is offering HoLEP however I would really like to have the chance of PAE but how do I get from one consultant to another? I think once you are with a specialist you are stuck! Perhaps you live in the Bournmouth area so are lucky.

Somehow you need to phone around your local hospitals and ask if the radiology departments carry out this procedure.   You may need to cover a fifty mile area.    I had to obtain a second opinion elsewhere before I got lucky.

Thanks, that is useful info, I will investigate. My GP said he would support my application for PAE, Oxford is my nearest centre, about 40 miles distant.

Hi again, when you found a hospital that did this procedure did you need to get referred by your GP or urologist?

      Thanks

If it is fairly near to where you live you may get the urologist to refer you.   If it is further away, then you could ask your GP.  Alternatively ask the hospital yourself how you should get your referral.

I'm in Brighton, and the only thing my Urologist would offer me was a TURP.

I think perhaps I need to go and see him again then, and see if there are other alternatives he has not discussed with me.

Clive, the urologist will not recommend the PAE because it's done by a radiologist . He will only recommend what he can do and he is not making any money on the procedure.

The Turp is very painful and it's a temporary fix

      Hope the best for you

Hello men, I got my PSA test results back today and I was an 8 before PAE and now I'm a 2.89 !!!!!!

There is not any urologist anywhere that I know of that can reduce your psa in 30 days that much. Check into PAE and if your a canidate go for it. I take no perscription medicine since my procedure only vitamins and I empty my bladder.
