I think that is more common than most think. I have had it for a while myself and it can be so painful. I have just finished a round of Cipro, but it really hasn't helped much. I am not looking forward to my next meeting with my Urologist as the next step could mean Biopsy. Not sure, but I don't think I have cancer just an unhappy prostate or CPPS. That is common Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome. You may have that as well. Depending on what age you are now, the doctor may want to put you through some different tests. Like making sure you don't have cancer. I think it is difficult for them to diagnose Prostatitis as the symptoms act like cancer or BPH. I guess you still must go get checked out by a Urologist.

HAVE THE DOC CHECK YOU OUT. MOST LIKELY YOU WILL HAVE A 3-4 WEEK TRAIL OF CIPRO.

I, too, have had prostatitis problems. Every time I went to see my doctor or urologist, they prescribed antibiotics like Cipro. Antibiotics work temporarily but never seem to solve the problem. Unfortunately, antibiotics do not discriminate and kill all bacteria and that can put your overall health at risk. You need to keep the "good and bad" bacteria in balance to have a healthy gut. If you have, a bad case of prostatitis antibiotics may be the way to go but afterwards you should consider doing maintenance by changing your diet and using natural products.

The last time I had a bad case of prostatitis, I went to my uro, and as usual, he prescribed antibiotics. I took the prescription (kept it just in case) but decided not to fill it. I decided to fight it naturally. I changed my diet by adding more fruits and vegetables, and cut down on red meats, pre-packaged processed foods, and eliminated dairy products. I also took supplements, 100% juices, plenty of water, and probiotics to keep the "good and bad" bacteria in check. It took a little over two months but it worked for me. I lost a little weight (a welcome change) and have not had any recurrences in the last 5 years. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Talk to your doctor and tell him/her what you are planning to do. If he/she will not listen, (some do/some do not) it may be time to change doctors. I am not advocating not taking medications...that is entirely up to you. Nevertheless, do not take medications blindly. Always ask questions about contraindications but especially about side effects. Put your health first and be your own health advocate.

I do not sell or recommend supplement brands. Google is your friend, so do your own research.

Best of luck and good health to all.

So true, I was given Cipro which I took, however I didn't take the medicine that was designed to shrink my prostate due to bad side effects. I did take a cranberry extract pill and for some unknown reason they helped me the most. I still have a bit of a weak urine stream but the pain has been reduced and I am getting better. At my age the dendency is to screen for cancer, but luckily my Uro didn't go down that path of torment with me yet. I have a follow up on the 7th and we will see what transpires from it. I don't think that I have PC at all. I would be suprised if I did. It is more likely BPH or CPPS. That being said hang in there go see a Uro and adjust you diet, you may be suprised how well natural remedies can help.

James made some excellent points. My Uro is quite the opposite, he doesn't prescribe medication. I would definitely do as many tests as you can to rule out things such as cancer.

When I fist got diagnosed with this last year, I went for blood work, urine tests and an ultra sound. Crazy thing is all my urine samples were showing no bacteria. The ultra sound also had negative results which was a huge relief. I did a round of cipro which did not help.

I actually started keeping a log of the feelings I had each and everyday and kept track of why I ate, slept and peed. I also made note of the types of pains I had and when, the worst was trying to sleep. My Uro told me keeping a journal was an excellent idea I learned so much about my condition just writing it down, plus when I saw inprovements it totally boosted my confidence, especially when it came to sleeping.

Diet is huge. I recommend cutting out coffee, drink green tea instead. Like James said 100% juices (cranberry is best) and lots of water are so important. I eat losts of fresh fruit and veggies, plus do a lot of homemade recipes. Cut out crap food. It's so bad. I also eat a ton of quinoa. Also, cut down on alcohol. Once you start to feel better, do everything in moderation.

Finally exercise. I'm only 33, was 216 lbs last September. I changed my diet, started running 3 times a week and am down to 194lbs now. All this has made a huge difference.

Don't get me wrong, I still have relapses unfortunately, and it makes me so mad and shatters my confidence. But usually these are short lived and are definitely manageable. It is definitely good to talk about it as well, so this discussion group is fantastic.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I am 31. I've been suffering with prostate pain since age 18. How long has this been going on for you?

I got diagnosed just over a year ago. As you know it's a tough go. Been getting better, but I still have relapses from time to time. However, it is definitely more manageable now then when I was at my worst points. Hope you are making progress with it.
