Prozac at 7 weeks

Hi everybody.

I'm new to this and new to Prozac. I have been taking it for 7 weeks now and should be feeling the best ever, I did experience side effects throughout the first couple of weeks, I pretty much felt more relaxed from the first couple of days. However going onto week 8, I've got a headache and had chest tightening. Do I stay on it? Or should I try something else?

What you are going thru seems normal to me. I have been on for over a year now and it was not until about 7 months in I really started to balance out. I had many good days before that then had what you are going thru now... then I sat with it and then had good days again. Even now after a year I sometimes have a bad day or two but that is OK. This medication is not there to make us robots and as long as you feel you are getting more good days than bad them that is progression! If it does continue though go and see your GP as it may be the case you need to increase. I increased at 7 weeks as we knew the 20mg was not going to be enough and 7 weeks was enough time to be sure about that. I went up to 30mg for 10 days then up to 40mg where I am now. Yes I had side effects again but this time I knew what they were as I had been through them before. As for the headache and anxiety ask your pharmacist/drug store if you can take an advil... these help me with anxiety when needed but check if ok for you first.

I'm not interested in increasing the dosage. I'm on 20mg and hoping to stay that way as this is my first time taking any type of medication for my anxiety. Well I hope I have many more good days cause having bad days put me on the back foot and I get anxious again that nothing will work and that I will have to live with it.

It can feel like one step forward three steps back. This is my third time on fluoxetine and the lack of appetite and anxiety were really tough this time I’m 35 days in today and noticing very small things when I look really hard for positive signs. The insomnia is my biggest problem at the moment because that with the morning anxiety leads to a really tough day. X

It can take between 12 and 16 weeks to take full effect. I'm on week 12 and my week 8 was a bad dip. I have then had good weeks but today feeling low and tired again. I'm going to push through to week 16 and if still getting lots of low days I will increase

I'm on 20mg and have had awful side effects so reluctant to increase and experience them again

Julie it’s tough I know first hand that you can feel like nothing has changed but this morning for a few short moments I could control and let go of all the tense muscles in my legs, those muscles have been rock solid for 34 days solid and while I was sitting here thinking about how rubbish I feel it dawned on me that 34 days ago I couldn’t even pin point where the pain in my legs was. Im not dancing on the tables but when you look really hard you will find the positive that will help you continue. Sending love
