Public Embarrasent..

Hello,
I've had IBS since childhood. How do you deal with sometimes pubiic embarrasment? I ate something I forgot I shouldn't have, and I developed stinky gass because of it on the job. They sprayed excessive ammounts of lysol in the work area. I tried to explain my situation, but people always seem to automatically think I am eating bad foods, or people just don't want to be around me. How do people handle this?

My best advice is try to learn not to care what people think. Especially people that don't matter. Nobody really understands something unless they go through it themselves and thus can be very judgemental.
IBS can feel like a very embarrassing condition for the person suffering but if you think about it everyone (even non sufferers) do number twos and let out stinky gas sometimes so really no one has the right to make you feel awkward about it and if they do then shame on them and karma will get them back! Tell anyone who tries to embarrasses you to go and educate themselves and then be done with it. Do not let this bring you down, you are more than your condition 😊 good luck!

You know, I try to tell myself that, but even the most positive people succumb to the rudeness of others. It's absolutely unbelievable how uneducated people are when it comes to health. It's also unbelievable how people make it "Your Fault," we can't control ourselves, and that's why the have to deal with the fact we can't take care of ourselves. But if I were to say STFU (as I am inititled) they think I'm the bitchy one... Good grief.... :-(
The bad part is, in my community, this is not something everybody talks about, so it's very hard to find support groups. Which is a shame, because I think this is one of the reasons people are so ignorant about health, and real life conditions.

You're absolutely right but you've just got to be fierce! Do not let these people walk over you and don't worry that they find you bitchy, they obviously have it coming and will think twice next time before making a rude remark. I'm just hopeful one day soon conditions like IBS are taken seriously and there will be widespread knowledge about it. But until then know you're not alone and these embarrassing moments like this happen to more people than you think remember you're not the problem but society is
