Quitting Bisoprolol

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi everyone

A few moths ago I was put on Bioprolol because my GP suspected I had hypertension. I was on 3.75mg for 4 months. During that time I was expiriencing very bad side effects and after a few visits to renal clinics and cardiologists the doctors decided to take me off all medications.

I'm 31 years old and otherwise healthy.

They told me to stop right away. First two weeks were really hard, increased hart rate and flacutating blood pressure. It has now been 7 weeks and I am starting to feel better. Blood pressure not ideal but at safe level and heart rate mostly ok. The only thing that is persisting and a is costant ringing sound in my ears. It started a moth ago and doesn't seem be going away.

Did anyone experience this ?? Please let me know if you did or heard od someone who had the same problem after quitting this nasty drug. Thank You

    Hi jack 48795,

When I first started reading your post I thought I had posted it myself and forgotten about it.  My experience with Bisoprolol is very similar.

The differences are that I am soon to be 61, I was on 5 mg, and so far there is no unusual ringing sound in my ear.  I experience ringing in my ears or "Tinnitus" now and again so hearing it wouldn't be an odd thing for me.

I have high blood pressure and have tried about 6 different medicines that either didn't work or left bad side effects.  I was put on Bisoprolol in a desperate attempt to lower my blood pressure in order for me to have a hip replacement.  Well it worked and some of the ugly side effects calmed down enough so that I could deal with them, but my breathing was unbearable.  I felt like someone was standing on my chest.  On the information page set in about side effects, etc. the #2 warning was that people who have asthma shouldn't take it.  I have asthma.  What desperation will do.  I mentioned to the heart specialist but it didn't seem to concern him.  Having already have turned down for my hip replacement and unable to work I sucked it up and kept taking it.  Blood pressure down, I went to my surgeon and spoke with the anesthesiologist who was shocked that I was taken this medication and strongly suggest that I go off it immediately (it was not his place to take me off of it).  So I checked in with my regular doctor and he seemed reluctant to take me off it but he did. Within 2 days my breathing returned to somewhat normal, nobody standing on my chest but the heart beat is strong and fast even when I'm just doing normal small house choirs.  I thought I'd run a marathon when all I did was take a shower.  It's pretty scary.   I have had a follow-up to check my blood pressure.  It's not ideal but at a safe level, just like yours.  My heart rate is feeling a tiny bit better but it still worries me. I have been off the medication for 1½ weeks.

Sorry if I didn't answer your question directly but I wanted to share my experience and actually thank you for sharing yours because I felt something was seriously wrong . . . well, there is something wrong but the heart beat situation sounds not so unusual.

    Good luck to you

      HI aetl

?Thank You for your reply.Yes unusual heartbeat symptoms are not uncommon after stepping off bisoprolol. I got my heart checked out in hospital a few weeks after I stopped taking it and doctors said all was ok.

? I think it will take me a few more weeks to come back to normal state.

?The ringing sound in my ears is  driving me crazy though. I hope it's something that goes away with time.

      ?Thanks for shearing your experience.

      ?Good luck to You too!
