Really scared, need some hand holding please.

I've just found this forum and I really need your help please. I've been seeing a psychotherapist for 7 months now to deal with my emetophobia (fear of vomiting) and it's been very difficult. Lots of issues have arisen and it's been very emotional.

Yesterday I was prescibed Sertraline to try to help with my symptoms as it's all I can take as I'm breastfeeding. I've read through some of the side effects and I'm terrified of taking the first tablet. The first symptom I've read is nausea and that terrifies me because of my phobia. I'm desperate to take the tablets to see if they'll help me but I'm getting myself in such a state about it I'll end up making myself ill whether the tablets do or not!

I'm sorry that my first post sounds so deperate but I really feel that way.

Thankyou.

Dont worry it tuk me 2wks to pluck up the courage of starting it, I too was scared of what people had wrote. The side effects are not that bad Ive been on it 3weeks now and yes you do feel abit sickly but thats it!! It never actually makes u sick so you should be fine and the sickly feeling does not last long. Hope u find this helpful.....

Thankyou for your replies. I only took one tablet in the end as I had a horrible experience and I can only assume they caused it. The day I took it I was OK but the next morning I had a very strange sensation that was almost like losing consciousness and going into a dream but I was wide awake and in the shower. My heart was racing too and I felt instantly very sick and also the other end felt as if it would empty  .

I know I only took one pill but I've never felt anything like that in my life before and was so scared I won't take any more.

    Anyone else had anything similar?

    Hi there

It is very scary but remember that you are doing everything you can to overcome your phobia.

Like others have said I did not vomit or even feel like being sick when I started to take Sertraline so you should be ok. Just remember that it takes time to get into your system so it will take around a month before you might start to feel the benefits of the medication. You might also feel worse before you feel better so no matter how hard it is try to go with the flow.

You are doing amazing and will will grow stronger every day.

Just make sure you take them with a meal, i've found that taking them on an empty stomach make me feel sick(never been sick thou).

    Good luck :D

I HATE being sick, so was also very scared of taking sertraline. I have been on the tablets for 2 yrs now and Ive never felt better.

The first 4 weeks of taking the tablets was hard as I was so tired, but I never felt sick, or was sick.

I know it is easy for me to say, but it really is worth taking them, I am now a changed person !

Hi! I have just discovered this forum, and as a hh sufferer I am frightened of the acid reflux making me sick.  I also get terrified when ii hear of any stomach bugs incase I catch them. I also hate it when anyone else around me is sick.  Sorry to sound so pathetic!  Val

I too am constantly scared of catching the stomach bugs going round. At the moment there is one around and I am washing my hands like crazy and getting into a right state. I also have IBS so I have a lot of symptoms of a stomach virus constantly but know deep down it isn’t that
