Hi everyone , i was recently told i have Hsv-1 on my genitals. I really feel ashamed and disgusted with myself and am constantly reminded of my diagnosis because it just hurts so much. I honestly am not sure how i feel right now, I just really feel alone and scared.

Hi there, you are not alone... I was diagnosed with genital hsv1 at the end of October as well. I totally understand how you feel. I go 49 years without any kind of STD and then this??? It is never far from my mind...but I feel that is getting better. My initial outbreak was not pleasant but I feel far less painful and problematic then what I've read about type 2 outbreaks. I got meds right away and even though I was told I likely don't need suppressive therapy I chose to take it to protect my partner (he has hsv1 orally) and I never want another outbreak. I do think about it less now.. but I feel like it's taken 2 months for things to feel "right" down there. I also got a yeast infection right after/during the outbreak. I swear there needed to be caution tape around my vagina...she was very angry. lol.my partner felt horrible and has been very supportive ( As he should since he gave it to me) I do worry if we should break up what that means for future relationships... But no sense in worrying about that now.

I have read that type 1 outbreaks occur less often and are generally less severe than type 2. hang in there. get to a doctor and her some meds.

when I had my outbreak I took acyclovir (an antiviral) 3 times daily. Now I take it once a day to help suppress the virus and reduce the occurrence of outbreaks and reduce any asymptomatic shedding of the virus.
