I hade a hysterectomy, bladder and bowel repair, 5 years ago. For the past 4 weeks I have been feeling symptoms of bladder prolapse again, constantly feeling the need to urinate, especially when standing or walking. Doctor says I have a small but insignificant prolapse but she has diagnosed me with lichen sclerosus and prescribed Vagifem. I'd never heard of it before. Would this cause the constant feeling of wanting to urinate? I'm not sore or itchy like other patients I've read about. I have to go for an ultrasound at the end of the month to have things checked out but meanwhile this is driving me crazy and although using Vagifem for a week, have noticed no difference. There is no infection in my urine by the way. Can anyone offer any advice please?

    Jann,

You really need to go to a dermatologist that specializes in Vulvar problems. I believe, actually know, you need a prescription steroid cream - not estrogen,

Please, have a biopsy to make sure of a proper diagnosis.

    Good luck!

I agree. You need ultra potent steroid ointment, such as Clobetasol, (Dermovate is the brand name) and use a tiny bit of it often for awhile then twice a week forever. It works very gradually. I don't think urination urgency is a symptom of LS unless you have the unusual misfortune of having it go into your urethra. LS is by definition external on the vulva.

Thank you both for replying. I think you are right and that I do need to take this further. I have an ultrasound booked for June 25th anyway. I feel quite confused after seeing my GP for the urinary urgency thing, which I believed to be a bladder prolapse, only to be told that I had this scary sounding condition. From what I've read lichen sclerosus doesn't produce urinary problems anyway and you have more or less confirmed this. I'm just imagining all sorts of things now and googling far too much! Thanks again x

Go easy on the googling. LS and stress have a vicious cycle relationship. Better to find ways to get calm.

Hi Jann, Check out the first pinned post on this forum discussion it contains a link to a webinair by Dr Goldstein.  It lasts 1 hour but will be very informative for you.  I found that it calmed a lot of my fears and also helped me to understand the condition and the various treatments.  Good luck.  I don't know about what others think but I didn't think vagifem could help with ls.  I thought that was for vaginal dryness.  Unless you complained to the GP of probs with sexual intercourse which most of us with Ls experience.
