Recently diagnosed w/ hsv2 but my bf who is my only sex partner is only testing for hsv 1

So I recently experienced all the symptoms of an initial OB. I had the sores and flu like symptoms. I had my lesions cultured and a week later I found out they came back positive for HSV 2. The problem I'm having is that my boyfriend who is the only person I've ever had sex,has tested negative for HSV2 in his blood tests. He never has displayed symptoms. He did test positive for HSV 1, has a history of cold sores in the past. Is it possible I actually have hsv1. We've been sexually active for 5month and he is who I lost my virginity too and I've not cheated. I'm just really lost and trying to get through this initial shock of having to live with herpes the rest of my life. I need guidance as to if I should get a blood test to see if I was diagnosed with the wrong type, I know the swab is pretty conclusive so I'm trying not to let my brain lead to misdiagnosis. It also kind of hurts to think he doesn't have genital herpes but I do. He's been very supportive to me and has also taken this very hard.

It is possible that he has given you hsv1 below the belt if he has been giving you oral sex. Maybe he had a breakout coming one or just going off that he was not sure or aware of. I'm sorry to hear that your going through this. I just wan you to know that it will be okay and you do have support here.

Thank you I'm trying to grasp all this and come to terms. I know how accurate the swabs are I just don't get why he is not testing for HSV2 if that's what I have. The only truth in this situation I know is that he is the only person I've had sex with so the herpes I'm dealing with comes from him. And yes we did engage in oral sex.

That is odd. What type of blood test did he have done? IgG or IgM? That's the only thing I can think of, unless he only very recently got infected, or your swab was wrong, but that's rare.

He was tested twice through blood im not sure if his test was IgG or IgM. He told me his doctor also swabbed him which of course came back negative, as he has no symptoms. He is only testing positive for 1. I'm coming to terms with this slowly, I still feel depressed. I was told I have type two. I'm wondering if I should get tested again, but I know how reliable the swabs are. We did engage in more oral sex than actual penetrative sex. Is it possible I actually have HSV 1. This is really messing with my mental and disturbing my process of coming to terms with my herpes diagnosis. Should I get tested again to make sure it's type 2, my bf has never had an outbreak and non off his partners before me have had any type of outbreaks. I kind of feel like it doesn't matter cause I had an outbreak and I definitely have genital herpes whether it type 1 or 2. One thing that also makes me wonder is when the doctor was swabbing me she told me I may come back false negative because the soars were healing. The sores where gone two days after the visit. I also had discharge from a monistat I just finished the night before cause I thought I had a yeast infection, but then I got the flu like symptoms that morning. I'm so unsure now.

His blood test was the IgG. His doctor told him that it's most likely that he passed hsv1 on to me through oral sex. I just want to be sure what type I have I haven't spoken to my doc yet about this. I'm just trying to decide if this situation is worth further testing. I don't see how my diagnosis could be wrong.

I don't either. Most unusual.

I just got a new update on my situation so I was tested by blood for herpes on the day I went to the doctors for my initial outbreak. My IgG for hsv 1 and 2 came back negative <0.91, the IgM was also negative. The culture was typed using monoclonal antibody microscopic immunoflourescences. I found this out because I called my doctor to as for a blood test to see if the type was wrong, which she advised against until at least six weeks has passed. Is this weird or am I overthinking this?
