Recently Diagnosed with HSV-2

I was recently diagnosed with HSV-2 by my first and only sexual partner. I had a conversation with him about it so he knows he also carries the virus.

Am I able to perform oral sex on my partner without a condom since we both have HSV-2 as long as neither of us is having an outbreak? Can HSV-2 be transmitted to my mouth and/or somehow turn into HSV-1?

No, it will never turn I to hsv 1. Is it technically possible for hsv 2 to transmit, yes. However, it is extremely rare and in the few cases, it has been people w immunecomprised systems, such as AIDs. If hsv 2 were to spread, it virtually would be silent orally, w statistics stating a shedding of the virus maybe once every 10yrs, if that. It really has it's preference for it's home base, which is your sacral ganglia at the base of your tailbone. Out of the 11 people I know total, some having herpes and the others not having hsv 2, but their partners do, have never had an issue and perform oral sex w out protection. Hsv 1 is the more versatile of the two strains, being it can transmit more locations than hsv 2. Herpes whitlow, which is of the finger, is caused by hsv 1. So I wouldn't worry about it. So did your partner never have an ob & never knew he had it.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. Yes, my partner had no idea he had it. He said he recalled what looked like razor burn at one time, but didn't think anything of it.

Wow... So sorry to hear that, especially w being he was your first. You seem to be handling it white well, which is great . did you not have a bad ob? Have you had any more obs since then?

Oh, my first ob was HORRIBLE. Trust me haha. On top of the flu-like symptoms that came with the ob, it was probably the worst physical pain I've ever had. I was very recently diagnosed - within the last two weeks. GYN put me on antivirals, which I wrapped up yesterday. Sores have healed, ob symptoms are gone. Being more intentional about a healthy diet and reducing stress to hopefully keep another ob at bay.

If I have HSV2, and my partner does not, can he contract it from me if he performs oral sex on me? Would he get cold sores?

Wow... I wish mine lasted only two weeks.. It was like 3 for me and two of them I couldn't sit up.. I had severe neuropathy in my buttock and back of legs that forced me to the ER. I had neuropathy for like a month after my breakout.. I still have symptoms every day and an ob more than once a month, even on 1000mlg of valtrex daily.. Sometimes I don't feel as strong and feel like i am being punished...glad you arw better... You seen to be handling it well emotionally though

Same situation applies as I stated above to mvr's question. It is VERY HIGHLY unlikely.. Bi have spent months and sleepless nights researching everything I possibly could about this disease.. I even learned about the other herpes viruses.. I downloaded PDFs and read case stupidea from all over the world.. I was a bit obsessive about it, because that's just how my brain works.. I'm telling you, it is so rare.. Unless he has HIV, I wouldn't worry about it.. Even if he did contract it, he is likely to never have am ob and if he did, maybe one and never again. Hsv 2 is even less active in the mouth, than hsv 1 is in both locations. My friends have had no issues and they all have hsv 2. Just obviously refrain from it during symptoms
