rectocele or rectal prolapse?

I've found this forum invaluable, everyone's comments are so helpful, in 2018 i was horrified to face the prospect of prolapse then January 2019 I had anterior and posterior repair with ssfixation and perineal tightening. The ssf was very painful for about a month, I was hopeful that all would come good, I didn't have that dragging pressure anymore or lumpy feeling inside and didn't any longer have, as the urogynologist had described it, an 'open' vagina. At 5 months post op all the docs said I looked great but I didn't feel things were right and now 8 months post op I think either I have another rectocele or rectal prolapse because by bum feels uncomfortable and different! Bm problems include evacuation difficulties, using lots of loo roll to clean up, the sensation that there is still something in there and a pokey out feeling! Since the op I've taken laxido most days and eat lots of fibre so don't get constipated. Please has anyone else had anything like this? Will I need more surgery? I was hoping not but am beginning to feel so uncomfortable every day. It's so depressing to think this will never end. Thanks if you've taken the time to read this, I hope you've had better luck and thanks in advance for any replies.

I do understand how you feel. I had a rectal prolapse and it finally was corrected but after 4 surgeries and implantation of a biological degradable mesh. In a prolapse part of the colon balloons outside the rectum when you go to the loo. I'm guessing there is a good chance of finding a solution to your problems but may take a lot of testing and another surgery or so. My word of advice is to keep going back to surgeon because the longer you leave it the rectocele or prolapse can lead to bowel incontinence problems by stretching the sphincters. It is important to get right back to the surgeon and tell them your problems are definitely not normal.

      Hi Karen

Thanks so much for your reply, I hope you are happy now with the outcome of your latest surgery, you have inspired me to keep on and not just accept my current situation. I have thought for the last few months that my inner sphincter seems to be not good or there at all! I haven't had any incontinence problems but need to make sure I don't go down that road in the future. I'm doing regular pelvic floor exercises to try to give myself best chance. So glad you are sorted at last 😃 thanks again xx
