Hello marie. I know when I say this I won't be the only one to tell you it's too early. You've had what is considered major surgery and the worst thing you can cope with at the moment is standing for long periods and worst of all lifting. The problem is a lot if GP's don't have the urogynaecology training (I'm presuming that's who said you were fit for work), perhaps you could clarify that. There's information on the Genitourinary home page under Useful Resources that you could read, particularly the South Tees information. You aren't being over cautious, you're being sensible and personally I don't think you should return to work in fact you need at least another 4-6 weeks off and then you should consider graduated return.

Thanks for your advice , think I will make appointment to see gp next week . Was also thinking it might be worth giving hospital physio a ring and get there opinion. Im still havinv good days and bad and stopping hrt has made my muscles feel lax which isnt helping as well as the emotional / hormonal upsets !Work have been fantastic and there is no pressure to rush back , I feel guilty leaving them short staffed.
My follow up app isn't till 12 weeks post op
I certainly hope to be back to normal by then !

Some consultants say don't return to work until you've had your post op check. Don't feel guilty about leaving colleagues short staffed, just think if you returned to work too early and had to have another repair in a years time because you overdid things. Take care and think of your own health x

Marie I am surprised that your doctor had said you are fit to go back to work. Where do you live? Like you my job requires me to either stand for long periods of time or to lift heavy boxes. I am in Scotland and I was given a sick note from the hospital the day of surgery for 6 weeks. I then visitited my own doctor just as the 6 weeks was nearly up and she gave me to have another 4 weeks off work due to my work requirements. I have to phone her again just before the end of this 4 weeks and she has said I can go back to work but on the conditions of no heavy lifting . I would call your doctor again and say you really don't feel ready and you are worried about doing damage. Is your boss understanding? Could you maybe go back but on lighter duties? Hope you get something sorted xx

Hi Anne Marie
I'm from Nottingham , work have been great very supportive they have said not to come back till 100% they will also do phased return so I have options.I will go back to gp .just I don't like asking for fit note made to feel like I'm a fraud

Marie I totally understand feeling like a fraud, that's how I felt when I handed in my second fit note, when you look ok on the outside people forget you've had major surgery and all your healing is in the Inside. I'm glad the doc gave me more time, At 6 weeks I felt ok and have slowly been increasing my activity and at 8 weeks exhaustion hit me and even now at 9 weeks post op I get tired and still have swelling inside. Take more time off and relax as much as you can xx

Like Ann-Marie I was signed off by the surgeon for 6 weeks. I had another 6 weeks off work - signed by my GP. My job involves lifting and carrying equipment and being able to get up and down off the floor as well (not very elegant these days with dodgy knees too I admit!!) There is no way I was fit to go back to work at 4 weeks. I recovered well from the op (although the repair failed - but that's another story) and I'm reasonably fit and strong - but...........work ...........no way. I also hav eto be mentally alert and on top of things ? (I work in the community and deal with clients - so have to be able to deal with them) See your GP and get another not fit note - you are not being fradulent or taking the mick at all.
?I have no idea why this has now gone into italics - I didn't mean it to!!

A rectocele isn't a uterine prolapse Buster. It's the bowel protruding into the vaginal wall.

christine the NHS guidelines state you shouldn't be on any waiting list for that long. Have you contacted your consultants secretary to ask where you are on the waiting list because you should have had surgery about 3-4 months ago?

You can also ask for a referral to another urogynaecologist, you're entitled to a 2nd opinion.
