Rectocele Repair

Hello, I had my repair done about 8 days ago. Once home (day4) , I had one very small bowel movement. Since that time, I have very loose stools and need to wear a pad. If I bend over, cough, sneeze, turn over etc, then I will leak stool. Is this normal? Thank you.

I had my surgery Dec 4. Rectocele, vaginal suspension and hysterectomy. I did very well, only one pain pill for cramps, day 2. I was in the bathroom just minutes after I got home. Surprised me! I had read so much about constipation. My Doc says they may have given me stool softeners in the hospital, or my prep was still working from pre-surgery. I too have soft and loose stools. Every time I ate I was in the bathroom immediately after. It's getting better now. I take 2 stool softeners a day. Yes, I've had a couple tiny accidents. Just yesterday I was in town, had lunch and sushi later for dinner, I have a 35 min drive home and nearly didn't make it. Had to stop at a gas station.

I'm not sure if I should ease off to one stool softener or what, don't want to take a chance right now.

I was given a stool softener once a day while I was in the hospital. I had one stool softener while home. This very loose stool could be from that, who knows! I guess if it's happening on Monday then I will call my urogyn. Thanks

Doesn't sound normal to me.  Are you taking any pain pills or anything that may not agree with your system?  Anything to avoid an infection?  Are you eating things that would lossen your stool?  You might call your Dr. to ask about this.

No, not eating a lot. I don't feel bad (as in sick) so I don't believe it's anything I ate. I have zero feeling that I need to have a bowel movement. If it's still going on on Monday, then I will call the office. Thank you.

I would think it's normal. I had my rectocele, cystocele and labiaplasty on Dec 14th. I was constipated for 5 days. I tried everything to help the situation. Finally, had a bowel movement but, now stools are loose.

I still feel rectal pressure pain at times during bowel movements. Everyday seems to be getting better and better. Now, just trying to get the labiaplasty healed. Hope everything gets better soon for all of us.

Hello. You shouldn't be having this problem unless of course you're taking a stool softener or something like Dulcolax. I would contact your consultant or GP if it continues but remember Monday is a Bank Holiday in the UK.

I'm not taking anything to cause loose stools. Started out as copious amount of mucous (felt like I was having diarrhea) and now it's stool. I have no control of it. I can be standing, sitting, lying down etc and start passing stool. It's so embarrassing. I've been wearing a pad, so I'm sure no one knows but I still worry. It's very odd to be passing stool in front of people. I'm going to call the doctor tomorrow.
