rectocele repair and constipation

Posted , 2 users are following.

Hi I had a PF repair a week a go and the underneath cut isnt too

bad unless I cough which is then excruciating!

My first problem is my surgeon also removed a small cyst which

required a single stitch. This is soooo sore! I checked today and

although it isnt red it is slightly swollen.

Secondly I am really constipated. Since last monday I have opened my bowels once (today is monday). I am eating bran flakes,

drinking prune juice as well as taking laxado twice daily. So any

advice would be appreciated! To go I took all this and added

ducolax to go!

I feel abit of a fraud really as without the above issues I would feel fine only slightly tired, but have been signed off for up to 8 weeks! At this rate guilts will set in over the next week im sure.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions I would be grateful!

Have you tried a glycerin rectal suppository? They help pretty much immediately with constipation.

Hope you are recovering now, i too had very severe constipation after surgery, much of it caused by the bodies reaction to the extra fibre in the diet if you have only just started on it like i had. Three litres of fluid at least a day and dulcolax twice a day worked for me but as suggested a glycerine suppository normally works. More Fruit and veg is good and for added fibre intake you could try ispaghula husk from health food shop or chemist. Dont want to be indelicate but ky just inside the anal passage will lubricate.

hope this info helps and you soon feel more comfortable.

ive had some minor issues post op ie urine infection but like you i feel so good, im 10 weeks post op now and its hard remembering not do heavy lifting etc etc.

    good luck

Hi Maureen , please don't feel bad about being signed off for 8 weeks , you require this to have a successful recovery . Remember the golden rules : no lifting , pelvic floor exercise and oh yes avoid constipation. Now on the subject of constipation I have taken Movicol from day one of my A & P repair op 10 weeks ago . I was told initially by the hospital to take 2 sachets twice a day , it was great , I would go at the same time every day with easy and very little discomfort . I currently only require one sachet a day now or if I feel a little bulky and uncomfortable I'll increase it , remember to drink your water. I found this forum really supportive as you do feel a bit out there on your own post op . Wishing you a good recovery : )

      Hi Helen

      Thank you for your reply.

I visited my GP yesterday and she prescribed Movical so fingers crossed! She slso prescribed more antibiotics - co- smoyxl as it seems I have a slight infection in my stitches.

Today I feel a lot better the biggest difficulty is sitting properly and if I am on my feet for longer than 10/15mins when gravity starts to take over!

I do agree with you that this forum is great and I have been an avid follower since before my operation.
