Hey I am 70 yrs old and a builder by trade and in the last few months experienced severe pain in the right hip joint. sometimes a short extreme pain which starts in my hip area and travels to below the knee but last only 2-3 seconds ,,background pain is less intense but con ti uous. Xrays reveal bone damage at the joint but not bad enough for intervention. so.. just how bad does it have to get before i can expect some relief. painkillers offer temp relief but im told can make working parctices dangerous because of drowsiness .. devil and the deep blue sea if you ask me .

The pain will get worse yet if my own experience is anything to go by. The pain killers are OK but your body gradually gets used to them so they become less effective. You have done well to work through the pain so far but could find it gets harder and harder to carry on. Trouble is, doctors and health professionals assume we just sit at home watching TV and therefore do not need our hips and knees to function properly. Maybe I am being a bit harsh but that was how it felt to me.
So thankful I have had my new hipwhen I did. Hope you can get yours as soon as you would wish.

One dr told me both my hip have arthritis right one worse.my life is on hold at the moment .
I'm going to see a physio on Tuesday private. I have oppointment on nhs but it's not untill the end of Feb.
I would keep going back to see your gp especially if your pain killers don't help.

Same here, I filled it in as I would have done before my op.
Nobody ever bothered to ask me any of those questions!

That is awful - no joke. When did you have the second hip replacement - sorry I have forgotten if you told us before. Hip replacements do seem to vary in success rate - even in the same patient.
