REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

I'm 62 years old. I just had the Rezum procedure on March 28th,2017. First of all...you HAVE TO have twilight if not general...no point in torturing yourself. Next, I had it to solve frequent and very weak urination. I sat still for six days after the procedure with the catheter in...ugh....that was horrible, painful, etc....sat sitting up...now I can urinate with as weak a stream as ever so far...however occasssionally I have a good stream and can empty my bladder fully....plus I sleep through the night...I beleive I have to wait three months for full effect...(from this discussion! My doctor has not said that excplicitly). So my opinion thus far is "wait and see". But so far...it seems that occcassionally I can see progress....I track and record every urination and rank it ...

Good luck. My doc who has been part of all of the studies says that most of the benefits come in weeks 6-12 and that you'll be as good as you're gonna get after 6 months

Please keep us informed on your progress. I would like to know if you'll recommend Rezum?
Thanks

Hey OldBuzard,
Thanks! My docotr shares precious little information! What I've learned mostly comes from this column and other online sources. About twice per day I have a stream...otheise I still have a drip / stream. So I'll hang in and be patient. No choise really.

Will do. If you are going to have it...get Twilight or general ...and be prepared to wear a catheter for a week (7 days). That is horrible!
Does it work? No results yet...although about once or twice a day I think I see progress...but I'll keep you posted.

You don't need to wear a catheter for even a day. Have them set you up to self cath. No pain and you can live normally.

Don't dispair. I had no stream at all for over 2 weeks and wasn't better than before for 6. My doc said that the earliest results don't happen til 30 days

Really? Thanks....phew...BTW I wish I read your comments about the catheter before I had the procedure. That was horrible. But I was getting frustrated becuase I urinate frequently, becuase I can't really empty my bladder effectively with such a weak stream. Your nice to offer this insight, thanks!

Hi Leon,
Sorry so far it isn't working out, but thanks for the report. Any sexual side effects like retro?

Hi Leon... a stronger stream is awesome..! That's the goal. Maybe your bladder has a small capacity like mine.... mine is about 220cc - 250cc and I need to go. Maybe consider drinking much less liquid after maybe 4PM... All the best.

Thanks....I understand I have to be more patient...My stream is good (for me!) only a few times per day...but I track each time I urinate, and rate it...so maybe I'll start adding more "good stream" soon. I'll keep you posted.!

No sexual side effects as of now. I have noticed when I have sex there is a lot of seamon coming out.......Doesn't feel any different other than a lot coming out like I was in my 20's. The only problem is it still comes out after sex,for a while................

Dear Leon.. I think you're a lot better off than you believe. When you get an ultrasound of your prostate and bladder [as you probably know], the technician measures how full your bladder is first, then you go to the restroom, void, and then they will measure how empty the bladder is. This will actually let you know how well you are doing. The emptier your bladder measures afterwards, the better off you are. [I'm sure you already know this, but I wanted to share this anyway, in case someone else does not know this.]
I have had no procedure of any kind yet, and I would be VERY happy to see the improvement that you speak of.
Also, you had the Rezum procedure... guys that have had the green light procedure [and other evolutions of the TURPS related procedures] have a 70% chance of retrograde ejaculation, and a 3% chance of erectile disfunction.
You are doing really well... it seems to me, VERY well.
Cheers matey

I think what some people are missing is that if you wait too long to have any procedure you're going to risk bladder problems and that applies to any surgery you do - the fact that Leon can pee better means less likely to further damage the bladder or go into retention so I think and agree with others it's a big plus and sounds like a success - my Urologist told me bladder tone can take 6 months to come back depending on how young you are how healthy and so on. Self cathing might help with that, see Jimjames' comments. I know someone in Australia who had green light and has no retro and was very happy - I guess one of the lucky 30% - he thinks the self cathing helped him get back to normal. He had a terrible time before, had a Foley catheter for 3 months ! and then after surgery a couple of weeks, then was incontinent and did Kegels so that was solved and he said at first had retro and regular ejaculation came back eventually.
