REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

I had my rezum done 4 days ago. I have what they refer to as a high neck bladder and because of that I needed a few more shots of steam, 10 total compared 6 which is about the normal amount. 6 of the shots felt a little uncomfortable but not too bad, however the other 4 were very painful, again I believe because of my high neck bladder. I am still on a catheter and scheduled to have it removed in 3 more days. I have read a lot about this procedure and have determined that everyone can have a different experience. Some have pain, others have very little. What is different about Rezum compared to other procedures is they are not cutting or scraping away pieces of your prostat, but are shrinking it down. I asked my doc about retro ejaculation and he said I should not have a problem. He has done about 20 of these procedures and said none of his other patients have had any problems with that. I hoping everything goes as well as he has predicted.😎

Hi Rog,
Do you have bph/LUTS or prostatitis? Or both? I would not have REZUM, or any other BPH surgery or procedure for prostatitis.
If you have both, and need a prostate reduction treatment, your doctor's comments are interesting. Did you ask him what he based it on? I don't know the doctor and maybe he's right but it's not unusual for MDs to spout this and that opinions off the top of their head as if it was fact.
That said, REZUM is very, very new, so less data available then we would like and from what I've read here, what is available tends to underestimate the incidence of side effects such as retro ejaculation.

Now yes been fighting. Prostatitis I have had it for 18 years ! black beast on left seminal vesticle which the Abxs cocktails put the back in shape !
Ur dynamic tests show bladder holds 7 liters was told 10 years When I had a hydrodistenion
,now the last trust I had showed medium lobe was pressing on urthrea , all I want is a strong stream and strong
Ejackulation which have been gone since the black beast came on me 15 years ago ,
Dr saids just a little prostatitis on left lobe my symptoms are testicle pain and general golf ball feeling in perinium , I just wanted rezum, cause I thought it had less side effects . I was also looking to go to dr Dan Sperling he does a similar procedure focal vaporization under the guidance of MRI . Why Mcvary said I would not be a candidate I do not know ! other than he said it might make my symptoms worse , he has done 30 to 40 rezum but no prostatitis patients Any advice ? All I want is to have strong stream again with no retro !

Did you say your bladder was holding 7 liters? What is it holding now. And what is your post void residual (PVR). They can tell you that from a simple bladder scan at the urologists office. Also, have you had a bladder/kidney scan to check for both bladder and kidney abnormalities? You might want to list all the tests and procedures that you have had and when.

Yes 7 on the post side and yes to the uro test was done before I requested rezum .
Other other than symptoms over the years
Of paper cuts feeling in the bladder area , the test reveal bladder spasms out upon filling
Maybe due to bph . I'm 5.11 ,200 lbs and and
Doc said probaly no ic in the bladder ! It would of not held that amount of saline and water ?
All I want is my stream flow back again
With out the black beast spreading after surgery !
The impossible dream ! But them again maybe not !

Hi Rog,
Sorry, but still unclear on your history.
You said you were retaining 7 liters before?
How much are you retaining in millileters now per your bladder scan ?
Did your urodynamic test say you had adequate bladder (detrussor) pressure?
67cm is not that big plus the size of prostate does not necessarily correlate with BPH/LUTS sympton.
Before you do anything, you need a proper diagnosis. Also, I would not focus on the strength of your "stream" so much. The important thing is how efficiently your bladder is emptying. You can have a weak stream and good emptying and a strong stream and not so good emptying.

Well sir look it up my prostatitis has over the years lead to my bphAnd I I differ with you
The doctor showed me how the medium lobe was pressing on the urethra , and that issue is the bph with in 2 years the prostate size went from a 47 to a 6$ in size , and that issue in it's self the squeezing of the urethra in turns will and can cause one not to fully empty one bladder
As far as strong stream is what I want back since the onset of this black beast my stream has decreased over the years . And I'm wanting advice on what type of bph surgery like resum or even better focal resume done by Sperling prostate Inst, would work and not spread the black beast . Not a md , just a long time suffer
In despair after 18 years and want answers
As you know ghe Uris are rare to give you answers prostatitis and bph is a wastd basket full of medical knowledge !
Does any one on this board have Prostatis and bph and and have tryed and had a susecess surgery! If so describe in detail of it and your outcome .
