I met with a urolologist in that is on the Rezum list. Very good credentials and reviews. He discussed rezum with me and thought i'd be a candidate based on my records. however he did want to do a cystoscope and a uridynamics.
His nurse mentioned that he has done around 100 rezums.
i asked about R/E and he told me it doesnt happen, which confused me as i know its a minor chance based on the studies. he said he has done prostate twice the size of my 80 with great success. when i asked him how many shots he thought i would have and he told me 12-14. I froze. i have never heard of anyone getting that many. Has anyone else ever received that many or knows of anyone that has had that many?
thanks in advance.

Rezum instructions can be found on the Nxthera web site. Estimate is 3-4 per lobe for distance >3 cm from bladder neck to Veru, plus 2 or more for median lobe.

Does that mean a maximum of 10 shots?

CJ,
I talked to a Urologist in Florida who has done more Rezum than anyone in the world. He said he would fill the whole prostate with steam, 200 seconds worth. At 9 seconds per shot that would be 22 shots. I said won't that cause RE. He could not understand why I would be interested in RE when I just needed to pee. Needless to say I did not have it done there. The reason he has done more Rezum than anyone is that he is located next to the largest retirement community in the world.

Good decision to pass on this doctor. Also shows that quantity doesn't always equal quality.

What’s the deal with the catheter they leave in you with the rezum procedure. I think it’s called the foley. They said they usually leave it in for 1 or 2 weeks depending on the swelling.

My procedure was 2 shots to the Right lateral lobe, 2 shots to the left lateral lobe, and 1 shot to the Median lobe, 0 shots to the Central zone. Given that info, what do you suggest the odds of RE?
Thanks!
