Right upper quadrant discomfort

Posted , 6 users are following.

I think I have had IBS for years, had a colonoscopy but was told there is no actual diagnostic test to confirm. I have bouts of loose motions a lot of excessive wind and a discomfort over the liver area - I do drink but have cut down - GP is checking liver bloods but I am unsure if it could be IBS? the said area aches  - sounds silly but a tired sort of ache or sometimes feel sore but it seems to be constant - any thoughts please?

    Hi

I have the same issue. Trying to explain to doctor that I have no pain just a tired ache!

I too had clear scope and clear CT scan and diagnosed with IBS. Managed now with reducing stress and eating cleaner. Discomfort comes and goes but just have to live with it.

    Dear Dawn

Perhaps you dont have to live with it.   I suggest you just give the FODMAP diet a chance.  In about 12 weeks you will know if the diet can free you of your problems.   Maybe it can or maybe not but its easy to try.   You dont have to pay anything for the diet.   Its all made freely available by several universities and hospitals.   You will find some information about sources in the forum on restles legs syndrome.   If you can't find it let me know and I will help.

    Cheers

I agree with Graham, give the Low Fodmap a go. I described my pain as a dull ache, a bit like a stitch in my side, or a tautness. It was wearisome rather than the type of pain that drives you to painkillers. I was diagnosed with IBS a little over 4 months ago and advised by my GP to try the Low Fodmap diet. There's loads of stuff about ot on the internet but some of it can be conflicting so I stick to the diet advised by Dr Sue Shepherd - she did the research into Fodmaps and IBS. Whilst I still get the odd flare up, my symptoms have significantly reduced and the pain disappeared. One thing I have learned is to be meticulous in reading ingredient lists. I can't tolerate onions and discovered that some brands of tomato ketchup contain onion, others don't. Good luck.

I would have an ultrasound scan to see if this could be gallstones.

I had upper right quadrant pain with my gallstones and gp at first said he thought it was either gallstones or ibs so the symptoms are obviously similar.

Take care and keep in touch

In theory yes but take all the tests your rec recommends and wait for the surgery to confirm.

I didn't mean living with the pain. I meant eating clean and being able to control it! Sorry if sounded different.

Fodmap does work however still finding triggers on that too

Hi all - apparently my liver bloods and inflammatory marker bloods are back and nrmal - so another visit to GP next week to discuss. I have been quite stressed so maybe that has caused this flare up - maybe as my diet is good I may need medication but have tried buscopan which doesn't seem to help
