Robotic Assist

Has anyone had a Robotic assisted surgery. My rtkr was robotic assisted. I had to pay out of pocket for $500 but I loved my surgeon and they said there was much less room for error. I’m just curious if anyone else had it??

My friend is having robotic total knee replacement on Monday. I had mine done the conventional way 10 months ago. How are you doing? When was your surgery? I’m interested to see if she has a shorter recovery. I still have some discomfort!

      Hi Dolores,

I am 16 weeks post op. I had rtkr. Am 70 yrs old. Recovery has been slow though I am walking un assisted and driving. Still have pain and still on meds though I am driving. Don’t know if I would ever do this again even though my left knee needs to be done. Good luck to your friend and you as well

Hi Arlene, thanks for getting back to me. Glad to hear you are progressing and driving. My friend tells me she will either go home the same day as the surgery or stay 1 night depending how she feels. I was so surprised by that since I was on the orthopaedic floor for 3 days, had a blood transfusion, and went down to the transitional floor in hospital for 3 times a day physical therapy.  I stayed there for 5 days and went home after 9 days. When released from the hospital, I went to physical therapy for 12 weeks. How long was your therapy & how long did you stay in the hospital? I just cannot believe my friend will be well enough to go home same day after surgery! She said her Dr. is doing robotic & minimally invasive procedure.... not cutting the quadricep. Hope she does well, she is so nervous! I keep reassuring her she will do great. I don’t dare tell her what I went through.

Hi Dolores, I had the op on Monday July 24th, was home on Wednesday afternoon. I felt pretty good until all the nerve block pain wore off. I don’t like to scare people about the pain I had cause everyone is so different. My friend had her exact surgery as me, we are the same age and she is doing sooo much better than me. It really depends on the person. Best wishes to you I love the people on this forum, they have gotten me through many miserable nights. I know I’ll get there, we all will.😘

Yes I had robotic assisted Bilateral TKRs. Seems to be standard at RPA, Sydney. No cost to patients here if wait list is ok and learners do surgery under supervision. Otherwise $6000 to have Ortho Specialist do. No brainer and I had excellent result although 18 months to recover fully. Good luck!
