My acid reflux is bad

I was ok on Lansoprazole for 3 years! Then it strated to fail.

Then I was ok on Rabeprazole for a year and then that failed.

Now I'm on Esomeprazole (Nexium) and it won't work. It has

been a week. I have to drink gaviscon after each meal.

I'm the perfect weight, I only eat the safe foods and I don't

go to bed after eating. I don't know what to do next.....

Hi Hardey. What safe foods do you refer to? What is your diet generally?

Hi, Hardey.  I've never been on long term drugs for the HH.  Had Nissen Fundoplication with Toupet surgery Oct., 2013 due to a giant paraesophageal hernia. Recently found out the surgery failed so have already had a barium swallow which shows herniation where the stictches are...so Tuesday will have an endoscopy for additional info.  It's horrible...nose drips unexpectantly, hoarseness, red bumps on tongue esophagus burning on sides of neck and the list goes on..Worse than before..Hopefully a second surgery will be done to correct the 1st.  I eat all the healthy things and am on no drugs..I take a tums or 2 and maybe an Ibeuprophen (sp) but I'll just have to suffer until something is done..Good luck to you...

Try Melatonin. I recently found out from another member that melatonin is very similar on a molecular level to Omeprazole. It's works for some but without the side effects of PPI's. It also helps to tighten up your esophageal sphincter.

Acupuncture helps too as does a good chiropractor.

Stinging Nettle soup helped me but if you can't get Stinging Nettles then health food shops carry a tea. It's an old time fix for gut issues.

I tried Comfrey for awhile and am convinced it helped. Only young leaves carry the so called harmful bits. There's a lot of misinformation re comfrey on the net but do your research and make up your own mind.

Stress makes it worse so maybe consider meditation and yoga.

A good probiotic and fermented foods like refrigerated sauerkraut are fantastic.

    Luck

In the UK melatonin is supposedly a prescription only medicine.

The NHS website has information on its side effects and its contraindications with many other drugs.

It's presciption only here in Oz too, and expensive, but it's easy to get from the internet and is very cheap.

Yeah, your right, if you're taking other meds check with your doctor before taking melatonin.

It seems to work well with PPP's. I'd try melatonin before PPI's.

Just like to add a few lines regarding doctors and gut issues. It's been my experience that they haven't got a clue. If they can't fix you with a pill, or at least mask the symptoms, then you're on your own. I tried asking doctors and specialists why I was having these problems, only to be met with blank stares. My so called specialist was grooming me for a Nissen Fundoplication and told me flat out I'd either be on PPI's for the rest of my life or have the operation. A week later I was off meds and didn't have the operation and haven't looked back. I was really starting to get the feeling I was on was on some money making production line and that my health was secondary. Maybe a bit harsh but that's how it kinda turned out. I'd advise anyone to try everything before going under the knife. Imo, you're more likely to get good advise from a Naturopath that western medicine as they seem to have a better basic understanding of how the body works.

    Hi Hardey

I have just downloaded a book (donations asked for but that is optional). It is 80 pages and is full of really interesting stuff. In order to cure the reflux you need to understand how the digestive system works. It is scientific but explained in a simple way. I really recommend this as it is a real eye opener.

I can't post the link but if you look for a web site called natural reflux cure. If you can't find it please e mail a private messsage and I will send it to you
