Saw ENT specialist, probably Vestibular Neuritis, almost 2 months in.

2 months ago - I had a common cold. A few days later I had extreme discomfort in my left ear followed by fullness, irritable bowels, feeling sick, sometimes faint and my hearing was not perfect. Over the next month or so, I had lightheadedness and general unwell feeling, but it seemed to have improved. I saw a GP – I had blood tests done, ECG – all fine. I saw an ENT specialist a week ago – suspected VN. I have been doing the catherwine-cawksey VRT exercises. They seem to have helped the lightheadedness. However, I am still having general sickness, have more than frequent bowel habits, feel more thirsty, lethargic. Has anyone experienced these symptoms? I am not sure when I am going to get better? Also at night time I my throat gets very congested and get the urge to cough.

" Also at night time I my throat gets very congested and get the urge to cough"

I've been experiencing this too the past couple weeks. i thought maybe it was because the season is changing and is causing allergies. And sometimes i wake up in the morning with a stuffy nose and more phlegm in the back of my throat. but it seems to go away throughout the day. I was thinking about taking an allergy pill if it keeps happening and see if that helps the stuffy nose and phlegm.

Hello, sometimes I wake up with lot of mucus in my nose and in my throat.

Sometimes at night I wake up coughing too. It's like a dry cough.

The mucus problem goes away by the afternoon. But since I have vertigo I have decided to use Mucus relief with couch relief pill to dry up the mucus right away. I think it helps to dry up the mucus from my sinuses that could also be affecting my ears. I always use Swimmer's ear liquid in my ears after I take a shower to keep my ear tubes dry. It is made of alcohol that dries up the water.

When I get a slight pain inside my ears I use warm olive oil on a piece of cotton to make it feel better.

When I start to feel like something is wrong with my brain I take a motion sicknes pill like Bonine. I cut it in half so it is 12.5 mg or 25 mg. if I feel that I am going to get real dizzy. It does stop it.

I also take allergie pills when I feel it is caused by allergies.

I beleive the mucus is caused by allergies. I sometimes take a benadryl at bed time so I wake up feeling okay.

i took an allergy pill (claritin) last night and my nose felt a lot better this morning..it wasn't stuffy at all and i was able to breathe a lot better through it. i feel a little less phlegm-y too. And my ears feel more open.

how often am i able to take claritin? can i take it everyday or will that be too risky? can i take it just a couple times a week?

Am i able to take a tylenol on the same day i take a claritin? sometimes i get an achy neck and back from work so i like to take tylenol for that. is it ok to take claritin the same day i take a tylenol? or is it bad to mix pills like that?

I am walking/running ok. My hearing was tested and fine. We don’t have dizzy clinics, but we have VRT departments in hospitals.

It feels like the illness has caused my quick reactions to slow down. For example, if there was 100s of people running past me, I usually could focus on a few faces, but now it is very hard to focus. Similarly if I was on a train going past 100s of people on a platform, my focus is just not as quick as it was. In a shopping centre with 100s of people, and lights, and different movements – it seems harder to focus my gaze. I played soccer (football) and I could sense that my focus was not right, I was slower in processing the information.

I am starting to wonder if I have some sort of brain/eye damage, but I had the brain MRI – all clear, 2 eye tests – both showed I have good eyesight.

This is along with other symptoms like general tiredness, calf muscle twitches, mild chest tightness and anxiety.
