Did you start your PT at 3-4 weeks?  Why don't you have your ROM back?

    Hello Julie,

Sorry to hear of your situation. I had my TKR and at 14 wks had MUA as

I had scar tissue and a bend of 70°. I did all my exercises but my knee was extremely

extremely swollen and bending was excruciating.I guess I was just unlucky.

However after the MUA I have improved most significantly bend now

110° - 120°. I swim twice a week and do aqua exercises and use a pedal

exerciser. It's a year since MUA and has been quite a journey, my leg still

swells and feels tight just above the knee but I know when to rest!

Re the MUA procedure, I was awake in theatre for mine and it took approx

15 mins with spinal anaesthetic, the surgeon physically? bent my leg ( I was

also warned that my leg could break). The procedure was not invasive as

It did not involve any incision into knee. Once back on the ward I was put

on a machine which bent my leg whilst connected to spinal anaesthetic

This was not a pleasant experience I was in hospital for 3 days.

I hope this helps but it is worth it.

    Kind regards

    Janey

I know some people build up too much scar tissue very quickly but I've only ever heard of them doing a manipulation under anaesthetic.. not this drilling which you doctor recommends.  I just wonder if you could get a second opinion as to whether a MUA would not be sufficient, without actually more surgery . . but of course, your surgeon may very well know things we don't know!  Good luck . . 70 is obviously not enough and whatever can be done to improve on that would seem to be necessary.

      Hi Julie

I live in Nottinghamshire. I would certainly ask for a second

opinion as my surgeon was not happy about getting the knife out

as he said going in may cause more problems i.e., infection.

Please try not to worry - you have had a major operation and

everyone heals at different levels - for some it takes quite a

long time to recover. I can sympathise with you as been there and

got the t-shirt but it does get better eventually, there is light at the

end of the tunnel - it's just a long tunnel.

Would like to know the outcome of your appointment keep me

      posted.

      Regards Janey

    Hi Julie

This certainly is a bitch of an operation. I do hope your surgeon can do something without more surgery. MUA sounds horrible but better than more cutting!!

    Wish you well love.

Ps I am in Hertfordshire, it's strange how in one Country, every Health Area does things differently!! Keep well x
