scared!

I went to the doctor today after what seemed to be a really bad uti. She examined me and said there was a fluid filled blister. She stabbed it for herpes. I told my bf of 7years and he also went to get checked. He does not have any lesions blisters or sores and says he never has. His md told home i may have had this and never knew. Even if he has no symptoms does it mean he could be infected and passed it on to me? Or does this mean i definitely got this from my previous partner??

Well finding out if it is hsv 1or 2 will give you some insight. If it is 1, he may have given you oral herpes from oral sex. If it is 2, then it is one of a few. 1. You always had it. 2. He always had it 3. Infidelity

So the dreaded test results came back today...and its hsv 1. Does this mean that it was from more recent exposure of oral sex? Also whats big difference??

There is no difference it's the same infection but hsv2 is usually transmitted by sex so below waist is hsv2 hsv1 usually on the face

So most likely if ur partner has ever had a cold sore that's the reason of it down there

Did you get bloods done aswell that will tell you if it's an old or new infection

I'm in the same boat as you have just found out I have it, make sure you see an educated doctor about it to help you understand it and get all the tests done don't let your doctor tell you u have always had it like my doctor did without any evidence! Also a counselor may help it did for me and now I'm just waiting for all my tests to come back!!

Also, finding out if you have igm or igg antibodies will tell you if it is new or an old infection. Igm means it is a new infection

Did u ask him if he cheated?

He says yes but not without protection...also he has no evidence of an active outbreak. His md has convinced him i have had this for years probably and did not know because he is asymptomatic.

His MD is an idiot, being that over 80% of people infected w herpes, have no idea they have it, because they are asymptomatic.

It doesn't matter if he used a condom. Search the internet, there are people who get it, even w protection. Condoms only provide about 30% protection if that. Think about the condom now even covering the entire shaft. Think of the entire area exposed that his scrotum, shaft and pubic area, all places that herpes can be spread to is touching skin to skin on a female, that a condom doesn't cover. He is asymptomatic and I will be willing to bet, that he has it. Cheaters will often deflect and focus the blame back on you for stuff, to deflect from the infidelity they committed. It is a classic cheater move, believe me.. My ex husband pulled the same cr*p your guy is pulling right now. Ask if your antibodies on your test are igm or igg. You're having an ob, cause you got it from him

This site is ridiculous and just made my reply waiting to be approved by the moderator.

He is deflecting, because of cheating and trying to put the focus on you. That MD is an idiot. I'll bet any money, he tests positive. Over 80% of people w herpes are asymptomatic and have no idea they have it. This is why herpes is an epidemic. He clearly is asymptomatic and you are not. Ask for your antibody test and which ones you had. Igm or igg. Igm means new infection. That will disprove his nonsense.

Also, condoms don't protect you from herpes. Too much exposed area is not covered by a condom. They give you at best case scenario, 30% protection from herpes. The base of the penis isnt even covered

Can they tell the antibodies and type from the culture swab or will i need to give a blood sample?

Keep in mind, there is a very short window that you can swab sores and get an accurate reading on. Ask if you had IGG or IGM antibodies .

The presence of IgM class antibodies indicates recent infection. The presence of IgG antibodies only is indicative of past exposure. Both IgG and IgM may be present at or soon after onset of illness and reach peak titers within 30 days.

The swab of the ulcer will determine hsv 1 or 2 but only a blood test will tell you of its past igg or new infection igm

So my results came back positive hsv 1. After talking to the bf he admits he had what he says was a small crack on the side of his mouth that had been tingling. He had no idea that would cause genital herpes for me....my question now is can i transfer this to his genitals since he already has the virus orally?

It's not as easy to transfer hsv 1 from genital to genital. If you use protection, take daily suppressive therapy and refrain during symptoms, then you have about a 2% chance a yr of passing it to him.

Should i use the antiviral daily? My doc only prescribed for 10 days?

If you explain that you want to minimize the risk of transmission, I'm sure they'll prescribe more. I don't remember if you're in the US or the UK? they definitely will in the US.
