Hi, I joined a couple of weeks ago and it has helped knowing I'm not the only 1 that feels like she's loosing her mind!
I've had a good couple of weeks, I've felt reasonably normal but now I feel my mood has dropped and ive got headaches. I'm scared because when ive hit the floor in the past I've hit it hard and I have trouble functioning!! I have trouble doing my 2 jobs (need to do to pay the rent), keeping on top of things at home and making sure I'm there for my son.
Any ideas on how to help cope would be appreciated
Thank you

Hi Karen...you will get better even if it doesnt feel like it now. When you are feeling bad just try and go with it until you go up again.
I had a really bad patch earlier this year and thought I was having a breakdown. My moods were all over the place regardless of what I did. I tracked it on my phone for 6 months and it seemed to be the second week of my cycle I would literally wake up feeling depressed anxious and unable to cope. After about a week it would just lift and I would be 'normal ' again. My doctor said the first signs of peri are often mood swings and hot flushes. She offered me efffexor (AD) to help with both symptoms as I can't take hrt but I decided to ride it out if I could. The best thing I ever did was cut out caffeine and reduced sugar.
It took about 3 months but I have no more flushes and the anxiety etc is manageable. I know how scary it is when you feel bad but you will get better...keep telling yourself its hormones not you x

Hi janina, I'm tracking mine on a menopause app which I hope will help.
I'm my moments of "sanity" I know it will pass but it can be so hard!!
Being part of this community helps as I realise I'm not completely "nuts" but I think there should be more help from doctors and awareness for what us women have you go through as men and women who haven't reached this stage of there life have no idea.
What did you swap the caffeine for as I love my coffee and keep reading about cutting out caffeine

Hi Karen...i use Decaf....you can't even tell the difference. I think Decaf used to be yuk years ago but if I go to a cafe and want the coffee experience I just ask for a decaf one. I still feel like I am having a coffee and still get the taste without the buzz....and I cut the sugar. I actually find it too sweet now. It is pretty rough when you stop though...i had a dull headache for a week...but so worth it x

this is great advice and I agree with it 100%. Doctors are too quick to hand out anti-d's to vulnerable women, who most likely don't need them. It is hormones and it does settle. Cutting out caffeine and sugar helped me also and I may or may not return to it once this 'transition' stage is over. Doctors should advise women to re-think their diets during this phase if they've ruled out everything else, instead of handing out anti-depressants just so they'll go away.!

Hi metamorphed....i definitely think i was doing myself no favours. I ran on adrenaline for years and was a major coffee/sugar junkie. Well it caught up with me in peri! I couldn't believe the difference the caffeine made. And if I ever doubted it....One day I tried a normal coffee thinking one wouldn't hurt. After an hour I was having an anxiety attack and it lasted 12 hours! Never again lol

Hi metamorphed and janina, I have taken on bored about caffeine and sugar and started introducing caffeine free tea and coffee at work and once I run out on my normal teabags and coffee at I home I will replace with caffeine free, i am hoping this will show in the way I feel, fingers crossed 😊.
I am thinking about getting smoothie maker to try and get some more fruit and veg into my diet, has anyone tried this route???

hi karen. Yes, I bought one of those new fast smoothie makers, 1000w, nice and smooth, can't say name on the forum, but you probably know the one I'm talking about! Look up anti-inflammatory smoothies online, I've added one of these to my diet every day and skin is glowing (well almost )

Hi metamorphed, I've had a quick look on the Internet for smoothie makes and recipes and am seriously looking at adding them to my diet but I have to watch my pennies. Are they expensive to make and when do you take yours?
Any help/information you give would be greatly appreciated
Karen

Hi, not too bad, I'm plodding along and instead of the "big black cloud" I'm calling it the "grey cloud" as I'm still able to function most of the time.
I'm not sure if it's the hrt or I've still got the the "big black cloud" to come 😑.
Headache has kicked in so I'm trying to keep that under control.
I hope you are good 😁 and thank you for checking in on me, it's very much appreciated
Karen xx
