Hi I have posted here a few times just getting a bit scared now back in January I had 3 ecgs and blood tests as I was having pain tightness in my chest all came back clear this all happened after I started taking iron tablets for anemia. Since then I have had various symptoms burping non stop all day pains under ribs and in middle just under breasts sharp pains in Upper chest a fullness and pressure in chest and stomach. I went to doctor 3 weeks ago who put me on omeprazole these don't seem to be working infact the past 5 days have been particularly bad I'm not worried it my heart again. I have never suffered with stomach issues before just started in January after taking iron tablets I have been on these for 2 months have cut down to one a day but need to take for another 2 months. Anyone else feel all these symptoms I guess I should take doctors work it's not my heart

You probably have reflux. You should go to GI specialist and mean time asking GP for Nexium not omeprazole for Nexium is esomeprazole which is stronger and you have to take it for at least two weeks and you can see the different. But you must buy the origin Nexium from Swiss not from India. It is expensive but it is worth it. Dont wait it too long. Take care.

It sounds like you might have IBS. Omeprazole does not suit everyone. There are other PPI's your doctor could try you on. As you were anemic, I am presuming the iron tablets were prescribed. May be you are not anemic any more and need to go back to your doctor for blood tests. These may be causing the symptons, but without further tests, there is no way of knowing, so I would make an appointment with your GP (or Primary Care doctor if you are in the USA) and get some further blood tests done, and take it from there. Hope this helps. Anxiety can also cause these symptoms, so try not to get too panicky. I haven't read any of your other posts, but do you suffer any heart problems? The more you worry, the more these symptoms will increase, so see your doctor as soon as possible and get some tests done.

Who ordered the iron tablets?  That's the Doc you need to contact.  Symptoms could be anxiety or could be stomach issues which for me sounds more obvious.  Don't self medicate yourself specially with PPI's and if you do don't take for more than 2 weeks. Out of all the PPI's I have taken the only one that I felt did a slight difference was Nexium, and I only took it for 2 weeks. I took Omeprazole (80mg daily) for 60 days, Ranodotine 300mg for 30 days and Pantoprazole for 30 days and they did nothing for me.  But we are all different and if you go to a GI they will probably start with Omeprazole 40mg once daily.  For now your best option is to eat better, eliminate Wheat, Dairy and sugar for 60 days. Drink 64 oz of water daily, preferible in between meals and 30 minutes before eating, 1 1/2 hours after eating.  Now, some of us eat 5-7 meals daily which makes this impossible.  Magnesium?  Yes, 80% of us a low in Magnesium so get yourself some Magnesium and drink at least 350mg daily.  Their is like 10 difereent kinds of Magnesium and some may send you to the little girls room more often. In my case they don't. ;-)  Doctors say that is a side effect, but for many of us is not because constipation is very common so a little help won't hurt. ;-)

I don't know how much Magnesium Nexium has but the daily amount you need is around 400mg. (The average you get from foods is around 200mg) I take 2 Magnesium daily for around 350mg and in my case I do not get diarrhea but I do know it can cause diarrhea specially if you take to much or you use the cheap one which is the one you get at Walmart. (Magnesium Oxide) I do know Gavinson has around 100/125mg of Magnesium.   Now, I just got this from a  Nexium site:

NEXIUM may help your acid-related symptoms, but you could still have serious stomach problems. Talk with your doctor. NEXIUM can cause serious side effects, including:

Diarrhea. NEXIUM may increase your risk of getting severe diarrhea. This diarrhea may be caused by an infection (Clostridium difficile) in your intestines

Magnesium citrate gives many people diahrea.  Try "Doctor's Best High Absorption Magnesium".   It's pricey but worth it because you actually absorb it.

I have a lot of experience with iron.  It can be a very tricky supplement.  Bacteria loves iron, and supplementing iron can cause bacterial overgrowth in the stomach if you have absorption problems.  Especially when stomach acid is low.

    Here's what I suggest:

    1) Take lactoferrin - it's a protein that binds to iron to help with absorption, and also to prevent bacteria from grabbing the iron for itself.  You can buy supplements of lactoferrin.  Read the research by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

    2) Take copper - anyone taking iron needs more copper in order to transport iron to storage sites.  Not enough copper causes iron to build up in muscles and tissues where it doesn't belong.

    3) Take vitamin A - lots of studies show taking vitamin A helps with anemia.  Vitamin A is needed in the bone marrow where red blood cells are made.

    4) Take B2, B12 and folate - not enough of these causes red blood cells to form improperly and to die prematurely.

    5) Take vitamin C when you take iron or eat a meal containing iron.  Studies show vitamin C greatly increases absorption of iron.

    Hope that helps,

    Amy

But how much and what kind of Magnesium you are talking besides the Nexium?  I know how you feel,  I have the same symptoms and now besides that I pinched a nerve on my back so my Neuropathy is starting to disturb me again.   I pinched a nerve almost 2 years ago on my left arm which gave me Neuropathy  with nerve damage on hands and feet (mild to moderate) I took medication for 4 months and then by accident I was forced to stop and I realize that the pain was gone without the medication.  That was over 18 months ago.  Then last week I pinched another nerve on my back and now it trying to come back.  Had a bad night last night and if I lose sleep then comes depression. It's like we take a step forward and 2 back. ;-)  But you keep on fighting until you find a solution.  Don't ever give up! ;-)

Do you think you may have bile reflux? I have heard that sometimes it may be symptomless. If you have bile reflux, PPIs

may not work. In that case, you may need other medicines such as Domperidone, Ursodeoxycholic acid or SSRIs depending on

    the reason of your reflux.

Opsss, I replied to the wrong person. ;-   Anyway, just did a test and these are the symptoms for bile reflux which I only have 1 (hoarseness).  I have lost weight but is only obvious if I don't eat.  I can go on a regular diet for 1 week and gain 5-7 pounds. ;-)

Bile reflux signs and symptoms include:Upper abdominal pain that may be severe.

Frequent heartburn — a burning sensation in your chest that sometimes spreads to your throat, along with a sour taste in your mouth.

      Nausea.

      Vomiting a greenish-yellow fluid (bile)

      Occasionally, a cough or hoarseness.

      Unintended weight loss.

It does not necessarily mean that you do not have bile reflux if you do not have all the symptoms. Please do an endoscopy to find out, consult your GI. And, if you have bile refux, PPIs may not work. If you have both acid and bile, I'm not sure.

Do not worry about cancer. I hope it's not that.

Acid suppression therapy may make things worse if you have bile reflux, I'm not sure though. If you have both acid and bile reflux, I don't know.
