Second hip replacement

Posted , 9 users are following.

Hi fellow hippies its been a while since i have posted on this site.

I had my left hip replaced in April 2018 and having my right hip replaced tomorrow .

The left hip replacement has been brilliant and just hoping that i am as lucky with the right hip replacement.

I was unsure about having the right hip replaced as i suffer with out breaks of cellulitus in my right leg and worried about the surgery causing a out break.

Anyway its all systems go for tomorrow and hope lady luck is with me, i will post how things have gone in a few days.

    Hi Norm

Good luck with the second hip replacement. Hope all goes well for you, and that you have a speedy recovery.

I am 14 weeks after my second one and thankfully all going brilliant. And first one 2 years ago.

Easier this time around as i knew what was ahead of me.

    Best of luck

HI I had my right hip done december 2018 and having my left hip done tomorrow, right hip still not 100% still get groin pain i am concerned having my other one done because i have a dropped foot and wear an ankle support. Although i have gotten a bigger ankle support to allow for swelling i am still very scared! not sure how i will cope but not doing too good at the moment and hoping i will get some normality back in my life? i am 73 next month and have to trust my surgeon! BEST OF LUCK

The most useful things I had post op was my grabber and a bit of material loop that I used to get my leg into bed which was given me by the hospital. I did have a walk in shower which was helpful. I did not bother with a seat and just lent against the glass. I did not have anything else apart from an icing thing I got from Amazon to put against the wound which I have never used. My sister stayed to help for the first week and cooked for me. I did not bother with crutches mainly because I was rubbish with them. I did use a stick outside and furniture surfed inside. It did mean I could carry a cup of tea or whatever without needing a gadget. I did have raised toilet seats given me by the hospital.

i have about three helping hands, long shoe horn, a gadget for socks very useful, long wand with loop to assist getting my leg up in and out of bed, a long handled sponge to do my lower half in shower doesnt quite clean my feet properly, i have a walk in shower but wasnt allowed to shower for first couple of weeks so i had to use flannel and just have a wash down, i got my friend to assist me using foot bath occasionally. I have a prop up stool in kitchen so i could eat or drink at breakfast bar, i have a high toilet seat and high chair as my furniture is very low hope it all goes well
