Well posted here so many times and got and gave great advice. Right where do I start??
Started on 25mg of sertaline in mid July.. I am not keen on taking any kind of meds but got to the stage with anxiety that I needed help. Anyway since then to 50mgs withe the obvious side effects. Racing thoughts, feeling sick, lose of appetite etc. So that settled and started to have good days. When the bad days came they felt really bad and I guess it's because I was having good days and felt calm. So I went to see my gp a week past on Wed and she said 50 is really the starting dose and we need to find the right dose for me so up We went to 75 mgs. So a week went past and no side effects. I had read on the posts on this forum that whenever there is an increase the side effects kick in. I thought I was lucky, then Wed just gone (exactly one week of upping to 75mgs) I had the worst day ever.. palpitations, sweats, thinking I'm going mad and the usual anxiety circle. So I called gp and she said come down and see her. Off I went and she said to take 25mg in the morning and 50 at night. So wed night I only took 50 with intention to take 25 in the morning but it slipped my mind. But yesterday I had such a great day.. I felt so good and that was withvtakingbthe 50. . So last night I thought I best just take 75 as I will forget again. Last night I took 75 and when I woke up I felt anxious... just like at the start of sertaline but it's calmed down now. Also had a crazy dream about an ex boyfriend from 20 odd years ago.. seriously? ?
I guess I want to hear how you coped with the upping dose and how long the side effects last? My doc wants me to get to the 100 as she is confident that is when I will feel the benefit. But goin through these side effects are just awful.
Any advice out there?
I eat healthy, don't drink or smoke and do relaxation
Thanks in advance

Well Jay, I have just finished taking sertraline for two years.
I feel better now, so I'm titrating down, with my doctor's advice.
I do really think that you need to overcome your fear of meds. I know that is very difficult for you, Jay, but could you give it a go?
I'm a nurse and got very quickly to 200mg daily of sertraline.
I highly recommend it for you, Jay.
Hope this comforts you!

Thankyou Tess for your reply. It's good to know that you have had success with sertaline as some stories you hear are really horror stories. But I think half the people who take this drug give up with the side effects.
I need to pull up the big girl panties and stop being such a chicken. These are going to help me and yes I may feel bad for a few weeks but short term pain long term gain...
Thankyou so much Tess. Good luck on your journey hun. You have done great and you should be so proud of yourself

Well, they made me much better that I'm tapering off them now.
The side-effects last tille about week five, so that's not too hhigh a price to feel yourself again, Jay.

Hi Jay I tried Sertraline a few years ago when, like you, I was having a particularly bad time. It made me feel very numb, as if my head was in a clear box. I could see what was happening around me but had no emotion toward it...that and the sickness. I felt horribly horribly queasy. I took it for a few days but it made me feel so bad I had to stop. I called my Drs to check if I was okay to do so and came to the conclusion that, despite how awful I felt before, at least I could physically function.
I don't think Sertraline is for everybody - if you continue to feel bad on it I would speak to your Dr. A relative of mine takes it and is fine, no sickness at all or any other symptoms.
If you feel SSRI's are the path for you, I am sure your Dr can help you find a better one just don't put yourself through this particularly pill making you feel awful for too long. If it's not working it's not working

Well.. what a day... felt bad this morning to had a relax and felt better. Went shopping and get a bit light headed so came back home and relaxed in front of the TV. . Fell fast asleep and woke up feeling good. Walked to school to get the kids and now I'm all anxious again. This is one big roller coaster.
I do not want t give up on Sertaline as it's doing something. The fact I'm having good moments is a plus. Before sertaline u was in the constant anxiety loop...
Please someone post something positive as I think these side effects are just the same as when I first started taking these meds back in July.
Tess you recon 5 weeks after upping my dose?
Just want to get better 🤕

About that, yes. It does vary from person to person, Jay.
Tell us how you're doing.

Thanks Tess. It's just so strange.. one hour I'm ok and the next I'm not. I have diazipam but won't take them unless I really need too. Plus I'm off work next week and made up my mind I'm painting the kitchen
.. sad I know but that relaxes me. So need to drive later to buy the paint so may take one later to chill out.
You are so lucky you have nearly completed your journey and I wish you all the happiness.
