Sertraline-not working?

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hey guys, I've been on sertraline 50mg for 2 1/2 weeks now. Most of the side effects have worn off but I don't feel like it's doing anything. I'm still having anxiety everyday and I've had several panic attacks since I've been on it. Is this medicine not working? Should I ask my doctor for a higher dose? Or a different medication? Or do I just need to give it more time?

Hiya, I sympathise with your problem, I've been through it myself. Two and a half weeks is not long to have been on your medication, it can take several weeks before it starts to work. If you have any doubts, it would be best to discuss them with your GP. I wish you all the best. God Bless.

I know 2 1/2 weeks isn't long, I guess I'm just tired of feeling like this. My chest is so tight I'm having a hard time breathing, it's not helping that it's hot and humid where I live. I keep having chest pains and that's definitely not helping because it's sending panic signals to my brain like I'm having a heart attack, and I know I'm not. It's worse in the morning, I wake up and immediately start thinking I hope my anxiety is better today, which is probably bringing on some anxiety in itself. I can't eat because I'm so nervous. Once I get to work and get into the groove of things and start to focus on things other than my anxiety then I'm ok.

I know how it can feel when you want to get well, you want it to happen as quickly as possible, it seems to take ages before you start to feel better. I still think you should make an appointment to see your GP and discuss what you are going through, they will be able to put your mind at rest. Don't go through this alone, talk to someone, maybe as well as your GP. You will come through this, you will get better. God Bless.

To be fair and clear, I have a friend who is also on sertraline and he said it's the best thing he's taken so far. This is how bad my anxiety has been for years, at times even much, much worse. It's not the medication that's causing my anxiety, I just don't think it's working for me.

im worried about side effects, so didnnt take any. i saw my doctor today but he never asked me how i was getting on with them, he seemed rather disapporved that i turned up there today to get another certificate for work, and i was put out by him after i left for not spending the time to ask me how i was after waiting nerly 35 minutes in waiting room to see him,

he did say i had been referred to seeĀ  a psychiatrist as my last psychotherapist said i needed longer thanĀ  weeks CBT therapy,

I see a therapist once a month, it's all I can afford. It's helped a little, but she's been trying to get me on medication for over a year. I was doing pretty well and idk what happened, a few months ago my anxiety and depression started to spiral out of control again.

The first few days on sertraline was hell. It feel like I had the flu plus anxiety x10 all at the same time. After that I can't say it's had much effect at all

Talk to your GP if you feel the drug is not working, I would imagine He may need to up the dose as a matter of course.

Only your GP can decide on that
