sertraline withdrawal

Recently I ran out of sertraline and had to wait a week to see my doc for a new prescription . During this time I started to feel sick and was sick also had buzzy feeling in my head. I was OK when restarting the tasbs but worry that these side effects were so dramatic and seemed to get worse as the week wore on. Has anyone else experienced this

Hi Julie, this is totally normal but horrible for you. Things should settle down really quickly now you are back on them. It's really important not to stop this medication suddenly. I don't understand the biology but myself and others I know have had this experience. Keep looking forward Julie and take care.

Hi Julie..it is important to wean yourself off these very very slowly (I am in the process of doing this at the moment). I'm sure that is why u had such dramatic side effects. Obviously it's better not to run out but I would suggest if u see this about to happen spread last few tablets out until u can get more. Dangerous to stop them suddenly. I'm sure u will be fine now. Take care

Hi. Sorry you went through that. Yes, that is to be expected with such a sudden withdrawal. You should never have had to wait a week-that should have been an emergency appointment. Why did you have to wait a week?

Yes I was caught in same situation as you but decided to come off cold turkey. Have very dramatic side effects doubt it this way so if you are planning to come off them, talk to your doctor about reducing slowly to help reduce the severity of the withdrawal. Good luck x
