I hope you have seen a doctor and told him how you are feeling. You cannot deal with depression on your own, you need support. It is a very difficult illness to cope with, especially alone.
I know how difficult it is to hold down a job feeling like you do. I lost jobs and relationships and a house etc because of depression, as it impacts our whole life. That is why I am saying to you know don't let it do that to you. Get support. Ask the doctor if you can see a counsellor and a psychiatrist. With all that support, and perhaps medication, you will put this behind you.
People here know exactly how you do, but unfortunately it is up to you to find the support. I know that is not easy, and will take great effort, but I urge you to do that soon.
Keep writing here and let us know how you get on. I will be thinking about you. Take care

How many times did you see him/ her before AD prescribed and a referral was done for talking therapies?
Talking therapies is very good , but you also do need a GP who you can talk to. If they prescribed meds and referred you after one visit I would try and see someone else, because they obviously haven't got to know you and what may be the best course of treatment. Normally meds will be prescribed and reviews undertaken to see effective they are before referral to talking therapist.
I am no expert but I am going off how my GP treated me, first it was advice as I was already on AD, after a few visits it was then CBT, but kept seeing me through the course. Eventually I asked about seeing a psychiatrist and he had a long chat with me explaining why at that time he felt May be a change of medication first, but has since referred me for more specialist advice this has been over 2 years but I felt it has been the right treatment. Depression isn't a quick fix but a lot of support from others is needed and I feel I have it with my GP, he has never tried to rush me at any consultation.

Have you family or friends who can support you. Depression is an illness you cannot fight alone.
It is good that the doctor prescribed anti depressants and talking therapies, so he must have listened to you. It is a shame that doctors have only a limited time to see each patient, but you can ask for a double appointment wheen he will be able to spend more time with you.
Have you started taking the medication?
When we have depression it does make us have very negative thoughts, and in your case you feel no one cares about you. I am not sure they think you are a big joke. Why do you feel this to be the case? Depression takes away a great deal from us and it can affect us in all sorts of ways.
Keep in touch.

and i have made another appointment with another doctor. Do meds really help?

I was on antidepressants for nearly 30 years, and I can tell you I would not be here now if I had not taken them.
You may feel worse at first as the medication gets into your system, but you should begin to feel better after about 6 weeks. Unfortunately anti depressants take quite a while to have any effect, so stick with it.
I can understand you don't feel comfortable talking to your family. I am sorry about that. If I were your mum, dad, or another relative I would want you to talk to me. I know it can be difficult for people who have not experienced it, to understand how much people suffer when they have depression. It is a shame you have not got family support.
I talk to my grandchildren about their problems sometimes. Could you do that do you think? Or have you a friend who you think would understand. I just worry that you are having to handle this alone. I would worry if your were my relative.
Let us know how you are getting on. Keep in touch

It is difficult for people who have not had depression to know that it is a very debilitating illness, not a matter of feeling sad, but so much more. Not many people realise this. It is up to us with depression to make people know about depression.
Hope the medication makes you feel better.
