I shattered my right ankle last summer and it broke in many places. Docotrs were 99% sure I needed aurgery, but went with just a cast. I now have no cartiledge in my ankle, can't walk on it at all without being in extreme pain ( entire ankle is black at this point) and I can't get surgey and because I'm 18 I have never been offered help for pain. I lost all my weight and muscle ( was solid 155) now only 135, I can't work, I can't leave the house and there is no hope. I am doomed. I just would rather die, honestly. It's so unfair and wrong someone recives help but because I am youth I was treated like trash from the beginning. Now I have to live my life in torrment for the rest of my days and angry cause I can't live a life as simple as walking around and doctors have no soul. Don't say oh "all youth are into drugs" I'm about as white suburban non gangster guy you could find. My life is over because of this.

Hi. Surgery would sort your ankle. Can you still have it? I broke my ankle in March and doctors said I need surgery. I didn't want that, but gave in and had it on 31st March. I had a plate and 6 screws in my ankle and been 6 weeks in a cast with no weight bearing. I got my boot 2 days ago and started putting weight on my ankle. It is a long process of recovery but, when I look back, it was the best decission. Go for it. You're young and you have your whole life ahead. You wil heal fast. Good luck.

Hi Josh, I don't understand the part about not being able to get surgery. Why not? Where are you located?
If you have no cartilage left, the best answer is most likely to fuse the ankle. I shattered my ankle really badly (actually tore the foot off - it was just hanging by tendons etc.). The bones wouldn't heal and also got infected, so eventually I had to have mine completely fixed (fused). That's taken care of 95% of my pain. The only downside is of course the loss of motion in the ankle, so I have a bit shorter stride length than I used to when walking and can't really run at all (sort of a half-galloping type stride is the best I can do).

Hi Josh-I can imagine how miserable you must be. If your foot has turned black please have it checked. Can you go to an emergency room? I don't understand why surgery wasn't done. Please hang in there and you will need to be strong and assertive. Don't take no for an answer. Do you have family or friends who can help you get the help you need? Please let us know how it goes and hang in there!
