shave?

The thought of surgery down there is bad enough, But I do remember them shaving me for a forceps delivery and when the stitches healed the pain was made worst by the itching from the shaving. I am a rectocelle with perineium repair.. will they shave? Am I best to get the area waxed instead?

appeciate any feedback

I did ask this question before my surgery and they said to leave the hair alone because shaving can make the area vulnerable to infection.

You don't get shaved anymore these days but if your consultant wants that for any reason you'll be told.

I thought they were bound  to shave as well and I had everything done inc hysterectomy but no shaving. Still got an infection tho.

I had a hysterectomy and anterior repair and got a bladder infection too, but my surgeon had warned me it happens because the bladder is very sensitive and if there's a lot going on around the area it's likely to happen.  So if someone feels off colour (I didn't feel 'cystitus' type symptoms but just off colour) with or without bladder symptoms, it's worth getting urine checked quickly.

Your surgeon should tell you if you need to shave but some don't need it. You can also get a cream to stop the itching due to hair growth from a local chemist. I forget the name of it but should be easy to find x

I asked my doc if I should shave close to surgery and he said no. He preferred me to clip it short. Practices have changed and there is a higher risk of infection if you shave close to surgery. That's here in the US.

Hair removal of any kind leaves the area more open to infection even without surgery so for that reason they don't recommend it as surgery only adds to the risk

Shaving is VERY old school!! I get waxed once a month anyway so just had appointment about 4 days prior to admission. I also got bladder infection but nothing to do with hair. I didn't get usual cystitis symptoms either and thought feeling off colour was just usual post-op symptom. I was constantly leaking urine though and by 48hrs on ab's that had stopped.
