Hi guys.... i have been on fluoxetine 20mgs for depression for around 4 weeks but feel that i am not improving at all...if anything i feel worse than when i first started taking them! Do you think 4 weeks is long enough to try or do you think i need to give it longer? Any advice would be much appreciated x

    Hey Juppster,

Off the bat pal i think you need to give it a bit longer - im not sure what your doc told you but mines told me that it will get worse before it gets better. The first 3-6 weeks the pills are just kicking in so chances are you arent feeling the full effect just yet.

What side effects have you been experiencing?

Thanks for your reply.....main side effect is increased anxiety...all the other side effects that i experienced to start with have now pretty much gone, its just the bloody awful depression that wont lift!! I think im just a bit scared as i tried Citalopram for 8 months which did wonders for the anxiety but nutta for the depression! Have had some CBT too which i think has helped with the anxiety side of things....just feel like im fighting a losing battle with this depression....

Thanks for taking the time to reply...much appreciated

    Hi Juppster

    Welcome to the site.

It is early for you to see any improvement, my anxiety got worse at the beginning but by about 6 or so weeks i started to feel better. So stick with it, give flu a chance i'd say and good luck.

    Take care

    DEAR JUPSTER,

I HAVE BEEN ON FLO FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS, I TAKE MY PILL LAST

THING AT NIGHT SO I THINK I HAVE AVOIDED ANY SICK FEELINGS.

THE FIRST WEEK I STARTED I WAS ON A \"HIGH\" I FELT GREAT, NEXT

I PLUNGED INTO THE DARKEST HOLE I HAD EVER BEEN IN! IT WAS AWFUL.

I SPOKE TO A COUNCILLOR WHO HELPED ME ENORMOUSLY, IT IS

GOOD TO \"TALK\"! I AM NOW MAKING SLOW PROGRESS, YOU HAVE TO

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU DO TALK TO AFTER A BIT AS YOU COME ACROSS

AS SELF-PITYING & A MOANER. SOME UNDERSTAND BUT SOME THINK

YOU ARE ON \"HAPPY\" PILLS AND SHOULD BUCK UP.

KEEP FIGHTING AT LEAST WE ALL HAVE EACH OTHER.

    LOVE

    Hi PRINN

I had to do a post when i saw the words \"happy pills\". When i told my mother in law i was on AD's she said \"Oh i should get some of those happy pills i feel depressed sometimes\". Tell you what, i wanted to smack her. People who say that really do not understand how you feel. I've not told many people that i am on \"happy pills\" as i'm scared of the same reaction. So i agree with you about being careful who you talk to.

    Hope your still feeling okay.

    Take care

Hey All.I totally agree with you about the \"HAPPY PILL\" comments.I would agree with the comment earlier about giving it around 6 weeks before you resign to the fact that Flu may not be working for you. When I first started taking the Flu 4 years ago it seemed to kick in around the 6th week,I said to my GP that it was almost like someone switching a light back on and everything seemed fine.I must say since going back on them though,I have not yet seen a difference apart from the fact I am not stressed.I am in my 5th month I think so I am thinking of going back and having a moan but to be honest I feel that fed up that I just cant be bothered...if that makes sense??The deep, deep depressed feeling is unbearable at times.I really do believe that if you do not feel alot better in the 6th week it is time to go back...she says!!x
