Should I get herpes medication?

i was told 3 years ago that I had herpes, I caught it from an ex-boyfriend unfortunately. The thing is, it has never given me any symptoms up until last December. Now I just don't feel normal down there and I'm wondering whether medicine from MY GP will help me.  I've never discussed it with MY GP (rang up for results and cried over phone when they confirmed positive) so I think I need to make an appointment soon. Can someone help me confirm if all my symptoms are indeed normal please. I have never had blisters. I do get spots/red lumps at the side of my inner thighs but I thought these were from waxing, am I right or wrong? I thought it was folliculitis. I have a burning sensation all over my genitals, not in one particular place and it's been like this pretty much on and off for months.  I have a kind of constant pressure feeling in urethral/bladder area and my pee doesn't come out as strong as it used to I don't think. Sorry for detail of this but I have so many questions! I don't know if I'm having one continual outbreak or if there is another possible explanation for these things going on.  I constantly check down below with a mirror and have seen a wee red lump once on my perineum area which went away but was tender.  I know I need to go to docs and talk to them about it but any advice from this forum would really help me too.  Will the GP give me medicine and if so, do I take it every day? Why do I feel like it's been constantly different down there for months now? Please help. Thank you.

Scared, although unpleasant, there is nothing to be scared about. You are one of the "lucky" ones, who haven't gone through the h*llish primary ob or recurrents.

I don't use the term normal or text book, because no such thing exists. Everyone's immune system is as unique as a thumb print, therefore everybody's experience w herpes will be different in some way.

With that said, your symptoms sound like herpes being active. If you've had any stressors, illnesses, changes in hormones you may not recognize, other underlying issues you're not aware of, change in medication or any number of environmental/biological and physiological factors could come in to play, why you are suddenly experiencing symptoms. Doing an assessment of what has changed in the last few months, may uncover what it is. I do not know your age, so I cannot say if hormonal changes are at play.

The feeling as if you arw not fully emptying your bladder, is because the herpes virus affects the nerves that control your bladder, resulting in difficulty emptying properly.

I think a proper analysis of things that have changed in your life since experiencing symptoms may help identify the cause, but I think it is a good idea to go to the docs ns take daily therapy for your comfort and peace of mind, if that's what feels best for you.

Thank you for your reply. There was nothing specific really that happened in December which I can pinpoint, stress is constant in my life, I'm a worrier and my job is stressful anyway. I'm 42 so not sure it's hormone related either.

i will make an appointment for the doctor next week and see what they prescribe and if that helps. Will update my post.  I need something, it's too painful/uncomfortable to keep living like this.

      thank you x

My sister, neighbor and best friend went into peri-menopause in their late 30s. Not as common, but women can go into peri-menopause in their late 20s. We have this misconception, that hormone changes don't occur until our 50s and we hit menopause. Not true.. Peri takes place much earlier than menopause and while you will continue to have periods, unbeknownst to you, you are in Peri. Peri can last years.

i would,it is suppose to help delay 'shedding'whatever that is which can help you NOT infect another,i got herpes from an ex-girlfriend,although i cannot be tested in my area, but i know i have it and when/who i got it from,in past 6yrs and for the rest of my life i will NOT have another relationship,,,i do not wish that on anyone so see gp and get help you need and deserve

Why can't you get tested? Where do you live that you can't?

Why will you not have a relationship, because of it? I have 5 gfs w it and who all married w it to others who don't have it and didn't pass it. One of my friends was w his ex for 7yrs and never got it. You shouldn't deny yourself love because of that and if it's that concerning for you, there are herpes dating sites.

also as far as meds are concerned isuppose it depends on what is really affecting you,as  some symptoms might not  be herpes..i am not disputing you have it,but it could be brought on by a number of things..stresss/menopausal/herpes,infection(non sexual) see gp get the correct diagnoses a.s.a.p even if you need meds daily..there are ALOT of meds people tale daily,i myself am helping 2 people with learning difficulties become independant individuals(i am not a carer or social worker)and i have to make sure they take there meds twice a day,for depression etc..popping a pill is not that important...WHY is xxx

So I went to the GP and she gave me aciclovir after my first post.  To be honest by the time I attended the appointment, I wasn't really itchy or burny anymore so I didn't take it.  So that was the week before last week and I felt fine again down below. On Monday though I started feeling as if a cold was coming on, had that scratchy throat but it turned into really sore swollen glands and a terrible headache with a few aches and pains for 3 days.  Not your usual cold.  I'm just paranoid now that everything is herpes related. Maybe I just had a thrush or vaginal infection instead of my first OB.  Maybe it was just a wee viral bug with my throat and not herpes related. I have no idea. I know that I tested HSV2 3 years ago.  Still no blisters, spots or bumps below thank god, they sound hellish and I'm so sorry for you guys that have them, I pray they never appear.  I thought maybe I start a diary to note down when I am feeling ill and see if anything herpes symptoms related happens when I'm run down or extra stressed etc.

Appreciate having this forum to talk about it with people who understand anyway.

Its not the end of the world, I know, but it's a different one than what we were living in pre-herpes for sure!  Yuk, I still hate the name of it.

thanks for listening, take care x

I doubt it was herpes related w getting sick. The one thing I have experienced since having herpes, is anything where I'm physically active for hours on end, can result in such a severe fatigue, I can pass out sitting up anywhere and it takes days to feel like I got enough sleep.

Flu like symptoms happen w a primary ob, meaning you have an ob after contracting it; not 2yrs down the road. Just a coincidence.

Ok, thanks. I'm just being paranoid then! I think I just need to start living as normally as I can again and not let it rule me so much.  x
