Side effects

Hi everyone,

I've been on flu for depression and anxiety about 6 weeks now and everyone on here seems so nice and supportive that I thought I'd register and join in with sharing.

I have to say I'm still waiting for it to make a marked difference - I do feel a bit better, not wanting to cry all the time anymore, but I get such bad hot flashes, a sore throat, upset stomach and the insomnia is actually worse than my usual insomnia. Is it worth it? sad

Thanks x

    Hi Carrie

I think you'll find it's worth it in the long run. I'm on week 16 or 17 (can't remember now!) and i certainly wouldn't want to be where i was back in December.

Flu is not a quick fix - it's takes a long time (for most people) to work it's magic at repairing the damage in the brain.

I found gradual improvements at your stage. There were setbacks too of course. You have to just take each day as it comes and be extremely patient. It is a physical as well as mental illness you know.

Any queries, comments, worries or observations - feel free to post. We are all in this together.

Best wishes and take care. x

Thanks for your kind words, Megan - it's so comforting to know other people are going/have gone through this. I don't think I realised the physical effects depression was having on my body, so it's taking time to get used to those brought on by the medication.

Generally had a bad one this week, but feeling a bit brighter today so fingers crossed for next week. smile

Hope you're feeling good too x

    Hi Carrie

I seem to remember having a poor time at week six. I left it til week 9 before upping my dose to 40mg. It's had its ups and downs certainly but on the whole my moods are level.

Apart from anger brought on by frustration (which is an odd experience for me as i was so laid back before the illness), lack of sleep some nights and dodgy dreams, most of the initial side effects have passed (and i had most of them). Poor body didn't know what hit it.

I hope the sunshine this weekend lightened your mood.

I spent today at the seaside, lots of walking and soaking up the surprisingly warm sun.

Can we have a few more sunny days please.

Take care and hear from you soon. x

    Hi Megan,

Glad you enjoyed the sun, I did too smile

I've had 6 sessions of CBT, most of which were before I started taking Flu, and I'm starting a more intensive course of therapy on Wednesday so hopefully things should start to improve soon. I'm staying open-minded about upping my dose, guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it...

    Have a good Monday x

    Hi

Found this website tonight. It's good to find people in a similar situation. I've been on Flu for 8 weeks. Still having bad days although not so many. i'm seeing Dr tomorrow, am having some pretty bad side effects but am wondering if I should up my dose. Any thoughts/words of wisdom welcomed. :? j

smile Hello you guys.Hot sweats-oh my goodness, they are terrible!!Dreams-Oh my goodness, they are weird, but I have found, and I think most will agree that they do subside in time. You will feel better. You have to go with the flow and take comfort in knowing you are not alone and that everyone is different.Just because 1 person feel better after 6 wks and another does not feel better until after 6 months (thats me by the way) you may not be the same. You wil get there and at the end of the day it is worth going through the minor effects the meds may have on you knowing that there IS light at the end of the tunnel. You may still have Bad days but so do \"normal\" people HA HA so keep battling on.Enough waffling.Take care.Love P xxx

    hi emily's mum,

what kind of side effects r u experiencing?

my gp told me that patients should up the dosage after a while on them. showed me that in some kind of book he had :?

the fact that u r experiencing side-effects shows that flu is working.

ask your gp about increasing the dosage. i went from 20mg to 40mg after 4 weeks. i remember it making it easier for me to take, if that makes sence :?

oh and yeah, the bad days should become less frequent in time  :D

    all the best

    Hi Miscellaneous,

My side effects are similar to everyone else I guess - disturbed sleep, poor appetite, feeling edgy and panicky. I get what someone else on here described as the creepy crawlies - almost a hot itchy restless feeling. I hope as you say, this means the drug is working. I certainly feel better than I did 9 weeks ago. My side effects don't seem to be reducing over time and seem to be worse some days than others. My doc told me on Monday that if I went up to 40mg I would probably feel more side effects which makes sense. At the moment he is encouraging me to exercise more.keep posting. x

    Hi all,

I have been on 20 flu for about a year now. Thought I would be getting better by now. Having a bad time and I have just started 40. Scared, and very disapointed. hope to be having better times soon.

    xx
