Sitting at work at my desk, shortness of breath, heavy breathing ANYONE ?

I am having a rough morning here at work. Suddenly i have shortness of breath, heavy breathing. I am having to take deep inhales and exhales. I am trying my very best to not go into panic mode but i feel like anxiety is creeping in. My chest also feels a little heavy. I haven't been doing any strenuous jobs, just working at my desk. Has this happened to anyone ? Is this normal? Thanks

Very normal symptom of perimenopause or menopause. When I started perimenopause at 48 those symptoms started it off for me. Some experience symptoms worse than others. Mine kicked in thereafter those initial symptoms and were very severe. At which point you have to decide what route you want to take to address the symptoms. Lots of support and information on this site if you continue to suffer. You are not alone.

Thank you. The symptoms lasted for about an hr off and on. I had breathing problems in the past but today they were extreme. This site is my saving grace. Thank you for your rely.

Hello love, yes it happens often. Made worse by the fact that you're at work which always kicks my anxiety in. If you can, try the following : count the in and out up to 10, then repeat, focusing on the breath and nothing else. Change your sitting position, stretch your back and neck out and wiggle fingers and toes. Get up and walk around a bit, toilet, cupboard, anywhere where you can get some space. Drink some water/tea and just wait for it to pass xx

Thank you. I took many breaks outside and to the washroom. Symptoms lasted about an hr on and off. I feel much better being home knowing that i do not have to go in tomorrow. Thanks so much for your advice.

It sounds like anxiety, BUT please get it checked out. More than likely symptoms of anxiety, but you should never ignore breathlessness and the other symptoms you describe. It's best to see a doctor to rule out anything more, and you may find that being told there is no underlying problem will, in itself, help how you are feeling x

You are describing me to the tee at this moment. I've had anxiety issues for years, and been on zoloft for awhile. This started last week, my anxiety is back at full force. Didn't get a period last month, suppose to get my period tomm. THe last 2 weeks, I have had blood work, a chest xray, a stomach xray, 2 ekgs,, waiting for the results for my stomach ultrasound, all the other tests came back fine, thank god. Waiting to hear from my Doctor because I want an EChocardigram.. I'm a total hypocrondriac, which makes my health anxiety. Constantly taking my blood pressure and heart rate which are elevated and freaks me out even more. At night I seem to calm down. My doctor gave me a prescription for Beta Blockers, which did work at night when I was at my worst. I always carry a prescription for Xanax, which I have taken a couple of times the last 2 weeks, but I"m not a pill popper, and I'm just trying to rider the wave. 3 weeks ago I never thought this would happen.. GRRRR
