Size of incision

Hi I had abdo hysterectomy 7 weeks tom for very largef fibroids...my consultant could not do a lap or vaginal procedure as my uterus was so large.....I have been left with just over a 8 inch incision just below my brief line.....this seems quite big compared to friends who have had similar ops and I was wondering if that's why I'm still quite sore and bruised......is this about the usual size??? X

    Hi Bridy. Before my op my consultant told me i would have a 4-6 inch scar. Well i don't know what tape measure he was comparing it to but my scar was deffo much bigger than he told me it would be.I have had no problems with my scar and have to say at just over ten weeks it does appear to be shrinking,either that or it doesn't look as bad now it is not bright red. In fact if you didn't know i had been cut you wouldn't necessarily notice it so happy days😊.Sharon x

    Hi Bridy. Following an abdominal hysterectomy in December i too have a scar at least eight inches long and like Sharon mine healing nicely. Its along my bikini line and any redness is reducing. I found any problems with healing that I have had have been due to internal problems.Seven weeks seems very early days to me. Hang in there x

    had the same everything removed - 5 stitches about an inch a part -size of cut seven and half inches
