Skin Side Effects with Prednisone

Posted , 16 users are following.

I posted a new discussion yesterday re: skin breakouts w/ pred and gave the name of excellent products recommended by my dermatologist which have greatly helped me.  Is there no one out there who have had breakouts besides me?  I have not heard any responses!  Help, let me know about you all!   El

I assume you refer to skin breakouts as the well known pimples. My flat wine colored spots of diameter varying from a centimeter to half an inch last about two weeks to fade while fresh ones come in. Mostly lower extremities.

i have always looked for confirmation that they are prednisone side effects.

They are called petechiae - and are due to the walls of the tiny capillaries (the smallest blood vessels) being weakened by pred and causing bleeding into the layer immediately under the surface of the skin in response to even the slightest knock.

I don't have that but would assume it's a combo of pred and age!

I saw that the entire discussion had been deleted by the moderator when I clicked on the email notification for a reply to your post. I had seen your post originally when you put it up - but I have no skin problems so didn't reply.

One of the things that is not allowed on the site is anything that bears any resemblance to advertising - it isn't unusual for spammers to joint the site simply to do that. You gave such detailed info that it did look a bit like that - so probably when it was seen, it was deleted.

Happy Christmas my dear and best wishes to your hubby.

P.S Got our Lidl xmas turkey this morning at 7am, nice and fresh. best wishes Dave.

Thank you Dave  - will pass on the wishes to himself.

Saw turkeys (2) in our Spar supermarket this morning but David reckoned they wouldn't fit in our oven (a particularly small one!) and the size of them we'd be eating turkey for 3 weeks!

Not a traditional Italian Xmas meal I don't think - we'll be going to the pizzeria on the 25th as it is the only place open. Have to eat at home on the 24th as there is nowhere open down here - they're all home opening their pressies.

Wishing you the very best for Xmas and the New Year!

Thanks for your kind response, and I will keep that info in mind.  I do bruise and my skin cuts so easily now with the slightly abrasian, and takes forever to heal. The skin breakouts I was referring to were little pimples, whiteheads, even blackheads, which have  come on my face, so I have been greatly helped by what my dermatologist recommended.  Also I am very fair and prone to sun damage.  I'm so glad that you do not have any skin problems!   Merry Christmas!

Thanks for your kind response, and I shall keep that in mind.  I was referring to pimples, whiteheads, even blackheads which have appeared on my face, and they are greatly improving with what my dermatologist recommended.  I am also very fair and prone to sun damage.  I'm so glad that you do not have those skin problems, en;ough is enough!  Merry Christmas!         Elinor

If you have a BBQ, it is easy to roast a Turkey on one. Lots of recipes online.xx

I had a post deleted recently as I was discussing a 'book' (an ebook of a few pages). It could have been construed as 'advertising' if you read it that way.

I have a BBQ yes, but a very small one (a Lotus grill) for using when we're away with the campervan - I'd have even less chance of getting those turkeys on it than fitting them in my oven! We have used it on our balcony but I have no desire to stand out there at temps around freezing to cook anything at this time of year!

Anyway - the only real reason for eating turkey is for the add-ons!!!!!

Yes, I have definitely experienced skin breakouts. In fact , I posted about my red bumps on my face a day or two before you! I wrote down all of your recommendations . Thank you so much for that!!

Hi Elijo. I to have red blotches break out under my skin but only on my lower arms. These seem to weaken the top layer of skin and if I happen to knock it they bleed quite easily and are sometimes hard to stop. I have put it down to age and preds thinning the skin. As Eileen advised I did'nt see your original discussion but will look into what is available.

I bellieve it's a combination of BOTH!  I'm so often a mass of bruises,  I did discover that if you get cut or "banged" if you put ice on it for a while, there will be very little bruising.  Take a pkg. o;f frozen veggies, apply it against the area,   wrap a dish towel around it for a while, and presto, less (if  any) bruising!

Thanks Elijo, will try the frozen veggies. Have a good Christmas and all the very best for 2016.
