Sleeping on my non operated side

Posted , 8 users are following.

I tried sleeping on my non operated side last night. (5 weeks post TRHR) Surgeon says that it is ok to do this. However it was very uncomfortable with some pain. Lasted only a few minutes each time I tried. And I had a pillow between my legs.Any advice?

    Hi Scout!

I am 7 months post op and still can't lie on my un-operated side. It just doesn't feel comfortable to me.

    Good luck to you!

I have mentioned in previous posts how odd it is that consultants give opposite advice re sleeping on your side.  I was told NOT to sleep on the good side but after 7 weeks could sleep on operated side which is difficult as lying directly on the wound obviously hurts.  My Surgeon did however say there is an ongoing debate as to the restrictrions that we are told to adhere to..and he suspects they may be all overruled in due course!

I am now sleeping better on either side but am almost 10 weeks post op..it is a joy!!But i still find myself wlaking around between 1.30 and 3 in the monring!

Keep going..it really does get better.

I am due to have my THR next Tuesday and as I care for the elderly,  I have had alsorts of advice from my clients, some with the very same THR after 30 odd years. Interestingly, they came home after a week or so with a walking stick, no raised toilet, shower, chair etc. Apart from a few exercises, they were basically told to go for lots of walks. I wonder in this day and age of overkill are we becoming over cautious, over protective and therefore over stressed. I am going too listen to my physio and surgeon, but I think I will let my body decide what it can deal with one day at a time. If I fancy sleeping on my side I shall,  with a pillow etc and much care turning and my physio said that was fine.
