Sleepless in Salisbury

At last I have been able to register. Have been away from desk since GP started me on Flu, but found you all on my mobile. Am on day 15 at 20mg.

I have had periods of depression, quite often turning to drink before getting help. This time round my partner dissappeared for 4 nights, causing all sorts of grief. She then decided to end our relationship of 18 months which is when I fell apart. Having spent 10 days thinking

I was getting over some of the side effects, I found she was seeing someone else. Today returned to work and feel like I have been hit by a bus!

GP gave me 3.75 zopiclone but it has had no effect at all, most I get is about 3 hours sleep each night. Can anyone help, waking at 3am every day is really doing my head in! :?

I must admit that when GP insisted I took time off, I wasnt happy, but I hid at my parents house for a few days, got away from a very stressful legal job. I also discovered you guys, and although I could not communicate, you helped me pull through the first few weeks. Keep up the sound advice & genuine care!

    Hi Stu

I know what you mean re the sleep.

You could try Lavender oil on your pillow or a herbal tea called Sleep Easy an hour before bed. I'm trying a hops and valerian dropper mix at the moment. This can be bought at Holland and Barrett.

I don't want to take any other chemical sleeping aid. I think flu is a hard enough drug on its own and i don't want any more side effects!

Sleep will greatly depend on what is churning around in your subconscious but i find the above have helped some nights.

Good luck and speak soon.

Best wishes and welcome to the site.

    Thanks guys.

After another bad night I am willing to try anything. Its weeks since I slept more than 4 hours, some nights none at all. So much goes through my head when I wake up, i have given up trying to sleep as I feel wide awake. I have done plenty of reading, that used to work.

Hopefully I can find a shop at lunchtime, the tea sounds good.

    Hope you have positive days!

    Hi Stu

Lack of sleep is horrible isn't it? Early morning waking has been a real feature of depression for me. Unfortunately I haven't had much success with non-drug remedies - I could always go to sleep, it was staying asleep that was the problem. There is quite a way to go on dosage of Zopiclone - I took 15mg a couple of months ago for a spell. That worked! - though this isn't a long term solution. Also there are ADs which are sedative - trazodone is one, which I took on its own for a while, then in combination with venlafaxine. Mirtazapine is another; and I am currently taking amitriptyline which has also helped a lot with sleep. If the lack of sleep is a real problem for you and because of that you don't feel the depression is lifting once you have been taking fluoxetine for a good length of time, then you can always discuss your options with your GP.

    Hi Stu,

I am sure that as things start to sort them selves out you will start to sleep again. I can recommend a herbal tea called \"Innertranquilitea\" from Star Child in Glastonbury. I think it may now ben called Dream Tea or sleepy times or something. A few years ago i had 1 mug (bad idea) and woke up 9 hours later!

I gues I am fortunate, my gremlins are obviously of a different breed - they just want me to sleep all the time!!!!

Still, I know what I am like on 3 hrs sleep and it is not good.

If you partner has gone look for the positives - you are oth better off apart if one of you is not happy. Iknow you didn't see it coming, we never do, but don't look for a reason. Sometimes love just goes away. it isn't anyones fault. Doesn't stop it hurting though!

Keep smiling and Bright Blessings to you!

    Thanks everyone for the advice.

I have just got some herbals from Holland & Barratt, hops & valerian, will see if they have any effect. If not then its back to my GP to get something stronger. Am so fed up with feeling exhausted the entire day.

LellyM that tea sounds great, what I would do to get 9 hours.

Once again thanks, i will keep you posted.

    Stu xx
