Slight bleeding

7 weeks post op after a minor rectiocele op. All was going well except for a urine infection the first week but have noticed slight bleeding this evening. Went back to work this week but taking it easy and not doing anything strenuous.

    Hi Reenie,

The other forums discuss this issue a little.  Two days ago, I had a blood clot and thought something horrible was happening when I saw the blood.  When I called my surgeon yesterday, I learned that this can happen up to 3 months post-op.  The pain following getting rid of the blood was horrible yesterday but I kept the pain meds they give you post-op, took some and had a good night's sleep.  And just like the surgeon said, today all is well. I am 8 weeks post-op today.  These blood clots - if you get them - I was told yesterday start at about 7 weeks so you are right on time.  I would still call my surgeon to consult with a medical professional but today, I can say what they told me would happen did - just like clockwork.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going to be having cystocele surgery in October and wondering about these blood clots.  Is this old blood that is still inside?  Thanks Frances

    Hi Frances,

The surgeon's office told me that at about 7 weeks, the sutures used are dissolving rapidly and occasionally, one is not dissolved completely.  So it's only way out is through the urinary tract which can dislodge small clots around the sutures.  That's why it's normal if it's only a day or two while it makes it way out and then all is well again.  I was terrified for nothing!  My real beef is that they never tell you about these possibilities - they worry that some patients would get all the "possibilities" when in fact some people go unscathed - like my best friend who had the same surgery.  You don't know how your body will react.  The important thing is to call the surgeon's office post-op if you have a pn issue and find out if it's normal or not.  I was told that if the bleeding/pain lasted longer than 48 hours, that I should seek medical attention immediately.  She said this was highly unlikely but anything is possible.  Good advice because as I said, all is well.  Hope this helps.

      Hi Nickie,

thank you so much for explaining this to me.  The surgeon doesn't explain much and I'm so scared.  I have asked a lot if questions about the surgery but not much about what to expect after.

I appreciate being a part of this group and sharing our experiences.

      Thank you. Frances

You're welcome.  As I told you, this forum was my lifeline after surgery.  I was in such a bad state before surgery that I did not even think about worrying about the surgery itself  - just getting it done so I could carry on a normal life.   In my case, my worries started after.  I probably would have been better off not having a best friend who had NO problems post surgery - lol!

I'm happy all that is past you now and everything is well with you.

My daughter is getting married in October and the week after, I will be in surgery.  I have never liked surgery but I'm so tired of prolapse and pessary.

      Thank you again!
