Small polyp in the hard palate

Hi, wonder if any doctor or any person who has had the same problem as me can help me out.

I have a small polyp in the hard palate in my mount. I have today gone to see the Surgeon dentist, who has very vaguely explained the procedure, he might think I am a dentist too, so maybe he did not find it necessary to explain anything further and calm my fears. He has explained he would need to inject me, guess it’s the anesthetics, take this out (polyp) and stitch me, ( by this point I was in shock and could not digest anything further)….. my question is if anyone here has undergone this minor surgery and can help me calm down. I came out of the consultation in tears, it might seem too much but I am really frightened of neadles, doctors etc…I am a mother, and I know I should have overcome this by now….but when it comes to dentists and my mounth…I panic!

Can someone tell me how the procedure is more o less and what I can expect? He only told me I should be fine, to which I answered that he will be the one that will be fine…not me!

As I say above, it’s a very small polyp, just the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen, so don’t know what to expect and I would appreciate if any specialist or anyone who has gone through this can advise me.

Thanks in advance.

Theres nothing to worry about, its like when you have a filling, the dentist injects some LA (Local Anesthetic) and all you feel is just pressure, no pain. For polyps it would be similar you won't feel any pain, just the prick of the injection then i think the dentist would do his job which would last a minute or less.

Theres nothing to be scared about needles, im sure you have pricked your finger with a drawing pin, needle or a pencil at school and thats it, done.

Hi Trex, thanks for the reply! really appreciate your time! so you think it should only last a few minutes? i am not really concerned about the needle, i think that would be the least, what worries me most is the stiches....its a really small polyp. I really hope it does not take long otherwise i will start to panic and have to run off!! Have you had this done yourself?

It should last a few minutes since its a really small polyp, but best to get a more accutrate timing from the one who doing it, stitches shouldn't be painful just follow your doctors/dentist instructions. They should give you antibiotics to prevent infection and painkillers like paracetamol you can get from the shop and take as and when reqired following the instructions on the packet.

I really need someone who has gone through this or a doc to give me an idea of what to expect..as i say Dentis was not very informative and made me feel like a dumm when trying to ask...he said this was not rocket science ;-(
