Hi everyone does anyone suffer from bad headaches and neck pain. For the past few weeks I have what feel like tension headaches that go from the front to the back of my head. It started off with the feeling of a butterfly inside my head. My anxiety is sky high and I am constantly on edge does anyone get this kind of pain.

Hi there. Yes, I get these symptoms. My doc tells me that the pain in the neck, head and shoulders is caused by tension, but there is also the issue of wear and tear, which apparantly I can expect at my age (almost 49). My headaches appear at certain times of the month, but my neck and shoulders ache most days. I recommend massage. x

Thanks so much for replying Louise I'm 48 and would say wear and tear could also be a factor never thought of that. This old age carry on isn't much fun never mind perimenopause x

Yes. I was absolutely miserable for almost two years with the daily neck pain/headaches. Nothing worked long term until one of the ladies on this site recommended that I start taking 3/daily organic turmeric curcumin pills. I began about 3 weeks ago and the pain has reduced drastically.  I no longer feel like I want to cry.

I get these too. They do seem to be hormone related. I'll have them for a week at a time and they will go away for a week and then come back. I recently had a hysterectomy with ovaries left in so I'm not sure where in my cycle things are anymore. Am 54 years old and, up till my surgery 7 months ago, I was still having irregular periods. The headaches did seem to occur for the time just before my period would start. A tight pressure headache from behind my eyes to the back of my head and down to my neck. CT scan of my head was normal.

Also, I find that I have more stiffness in my neck and upper shoulder area. When I move my head back and forth I can sometimes feel the bones creaking or grinding. I try to make sure I'm getting a proper vitamin and calcium intake.

    Hope this helps!

Oh, the creaking and the grinding! It sounds like your bones are crumbling. I'm taking Menopace.

It's a vitamin supplement particularly for women experiencing menopausal sympoms. You can buy it in Holland and Barratt or Boots. I usually stock up when they have it on offer, which is quite regularly. It doesn't alleviate the symptoms but at least my vitamin levels are good!

If you are taking calcium, just make sure you are taking Vit D AND Vit K2 to make sure the calcium is getting to where it should - your bones and not where it is often dumped - your arteries. Best calcium comes from food not supplements.

An osteo nurse told me Ready Brek is the best source of calcium from food. I have it with Manuka Honey and seeds. Sometimes blueberries or other fruits.

Problem with Ready Brek and other 'fortified' cereals is the calcium (and other vits/mins) are 'added' to the product. Often these vits/mins are cheaper forms of supplements and are not as easily absorbed.

The best sources for calcium is from foods that contain it naturally. Cruciferous veg (kale, broccoli etc) and sardines are pretty near the top of the list, that is if you are lactose intolerant. Otherwise dairy is a good source.

Thank you that is good to know. I'll bear that in mind. I have milk, cheese, eggs and full fat yoghurt most days.

Hi Manmoor. i started hrt on 1/4/16, & this has eliminated my hormonal intense headaches & tremedously helped my anxiety & erratic mood. i am on (low dose) estrogel nightly & utrogestan capsules days 15 -26 of my 28day cycle. I would see if you can speak to a doc or nurse who specialises in meno at your doc's surgery to look into this possibility - it may well help you as it has done me. I know how you feel - its overwhelming at times. Take care hun, & let us know how you get on. xxx

You are welcome. Do let us know how you get on at doc's. It would really help you & doc if you write down all your symptoms to take with you. Doc's go alot on symptoms, age, bleed cycles/consistency/frequency when diagnosing peri/meno, as blood tests for hormones are so unreliable because they fluctuate so often. xx
